I was looking on canvas paper sites and there are several types from heavier to more light weight. Which kind will be better and long lasting? Is there a specific name recommended? Is there also a website recommended (to look at the different types and for purchasing?)

i generally do murals directly on the wall of the appointed place. however i have seen murals done on canvas... and it looked to be a heavier type of canvas used, though for the life of me i don't know why, i'd choose a light and tight woven type over a heavier coarse type...simply for the ease of hanging it after it is painted...it is going to be difficult enough to deal with without the extra weight.

Mural?

Just paint on the wall. If the wall needs preparation you are best of plastering the wall with a chalk based plaster. Using water soluble paint you will create a work that will last ages...weather permitting of course.

If you have to work on canvas, size is of the essence. The bigger the painting, the heavier the quality needs to be. You need a rig to hang it on. It is a lot of extra work that does not pay itself back...it only makes the job that much harder.
