This got knocked out in an accident and although one side is firmly reattached the other side remains loose. I dont know if something on the face plate is broken (easy to get a new kit) or something it is attached to has broken (probably expensive) so I'm trying to find out how it's fixed onto the car.

There is a metal clip mounted on each side of the module that flexes and snaps into place when the unit is seated in the dash opening. If one side isn't locking in, then the clip itself may be bent or broken, the side of the dash opening may be damaged where the clip locks in, or there may be something preventing the module from fitting tightly into the dash.

The locking mechanism is identical on both sides of the dash opening, so if you see a difference in the side that won't lock, that may be the problem.
