All depends on the spring in the gun and weather it will acomplish the ligale limit of 12 ftlbs.
Both guns with the same spring in them then there is no comparisment, the onley facter maybe the slug that you use.
I personaly find the 177 a far more affective than the 22

A .22 will have more muzzle energy. If you know the velocity and pellet weight in grains, this calculator will give the muzzle energy.

Keep in mind some localities and ranges do not allow for over a certain muzzle energy. The local range I use say nothing over 18 foot lbs. That means most .177's are OK, many .22's are, but not all of them.

A .22 will have more welly at a shorter range but is subject to "pellet drop" because of the weight of the pellet at longer ranges. The hunter field target (HFT) crowd who shoot at metal targets mainly use .177 . Mate of mine who does hunting as well uses a .177 for HFT and .20 for hunting. Try the forum at http://www.airgunneruk.co.nr/ for more comprehensive advice.

That is just the size of pellet mate depends on the power. most are limited by law to 13 ft per lb so don't matter. I'd go with the trusty old .22

a .22 will pack more punch
but a .177 shoots a little faster
if you want to hunt withit so get the .22
if you just want to shoot a ton cheap then the .177 cause they can usauly use bbs too

Presume you are talking of air rifles. Power does not come into it, .22 is slightly larger , that's all.
