I am not Mormon myself but a great deal of my family is, and I went to a Non-Denominational Christian church a couple years ago, and the preacher said that all mormons are going to hell because they don't believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I never went back. Mormons believe Jesus is the Son of God and that through his atonement they can be saved. Even the actual name of the Church is, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. So why do people still think they are not Christians.

I am not trying to validate the mormon Church, but I thought I should clarify some points.

11 other people saw the golden plates, and there testimonies are published in the front of the book of mormon, and even though they fell away from the church they never denied they saw the plates.

Mormons believe that they can become like God from this scripture:

Matthew 5:48 Be ye perfect, even as your father is perfect.

Mormons study the bible just as much as the Book of Mormon. They even have classes for there High school aged youth where they study the Book of Mormon one year, the Old Testament, the next and then the New Testament.

I don't mean to get defensive I just don't like it when people don't see it from the other side.

Your right Jesus is the Son of GOD the only way we can be saved. We do not just beleive he is a teacher who died on the cross?! For anyone look up THE LIVING CHRIST it is on LDS.org! I love Jesus with all my heart! Joseph Smith was a prophet, he translated the Book of Mormon for us, because of his faith we have our church today. He is only a prophet. Jesus is our savior! I try to be like Jesus, I follow his teachings, yet I somehow don't think that saying anyone is going ot HELL is something JESUS WOULD SAY! HE taught love and tolerance! Jesus is our brother, he is Satans brother, we are all borthers and sisters since GOD created all of us. If God didn't create Satan and if he isnt a fallen angel then who is he and where did he come from?
Just because someone is evil does not make them our brother or sister since GOD craeted us ALL!
We are Chrsitian get over it!

Sorry to say the preacher was right. Mormons do not believe in the atoning blood of Jesus Christ. Their Blood Atonement Doctrine actually teaches that some sins that even Christs blood can not atone for and that these people must have their blood spilled on the ground. Hence the reason one of the reasons UTAH still offer firing squad as an option to die if you are executed. Further to this they do not believe in the God that Christians believe in. A lot of what the other people on here have said is true. It can be backed up with Mormon texts. It is not something us non - mormons make up. The Gold plates may have been seen by others but this does not mean to say they were fake. The translation of the plates is a farce as most of the book of mormon is exactly the same word for word as a lot of the King James Bible.

Some Christians are quick to condemn people because of their background or tradition, or differences in church culture. That could be the case in that instance.

But many Christians do not sponsor Mormonism because some of Mormon doctrine goes against central positions of the Bible. I don't know details of which beliefs.... but I've heard one of the beliefs of LDS is that all people are capable of becoming "gods" like Jesus, and that we earn a status like that.

In that case, they should say that they don't agree with a belief, but NOT make some declaration that all people of a specific background are automatically going to hell. I think that's a bit oppressive.

Thank you! You're a breath of fresh air. There are a lot of one sided people on here both ways. I keep an open mind to other peoples beliefs and religions. I am an LDS convert and I DO know my church is true. How do I know? I prayed and God answered my prayer. My life has been so blessed since I joined the church. I happen to think no matter what religion people are affiliated with, as long as they're doing their best, it will bless their life.
God bless you!

People can be really ignorant when it comes to things like that. People still think that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, still practices polygamy, when we don't. Many people listen to someone who isn't LDS for information, instead of asking someone who is. My wife used to work with a lady who asked her if it was true that in the Temple women have to have sex with the workers in there. My wife told her no it was not true, and asked who told her that. The lady said it was someone of a different religion. My wife asked her why she would listen to someone who wasn't LDS, and pointed out that a person would not call a plumber if they were having an electrical problem in their home.

My point is that people get their info from the wrong sources, instead of just asking someone who knows.

That is because their gospel knowledge is entirely base on their own interprtation of the Bible, and their heart is blinded by their pride.

On the other hand, the Mormons have no problem accepting other christ followers to be christians, while stay loyal to their own LDS belief, because the LDS knows the Bible and the Book of Mormon is complimenting each other, and not contradicting each other.

You must realize that the devil cloaks himself in names that appear to be christian. The devil is a deceiver. Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints is just one example of a clever sounding name to trick people by. Mormons are not of the Christian faith because they follow the teachings of some guy they think got " another revelation" of Jesus Christ. They may use the bible but they use also another book called the book of mormon. Beware of any group that has " another" book other than the bible that they hold in such high regards as the mormons do their book of mormon. False prophets will abound , the bible says.

I must start by saying I am a little uncomfortable disagreeing with a priest about religious matters but here goes. If Mormons call themselves Christian that is good enough for me. I am Roman Catholic and some say we are not Christian so the labeling can be a little silly.

They put their faith more in the book of mormon than in the bilbe. The book of mormon was written only a couple hundred years ago by John Smith, or was it Brigham Young? Anyways, in the book of mormon it talks about a culture that was in the US that was extremely similar to the culture in the middle east, only in the US. There is no archaelogical evidence that these stories are even true.
The mormon leadership has a tendency to change policy when it is convenient. ie it wasn't ok to drink soda until someone in the church owned Pepsi.
There are also theological discrepencies, they believe that God came down from heaven to have a sexual relationship with Mary, and that was how jesus was conceieved. The bible refers to Mary as being a virgin. But this was something they decided in the past couple hundred years.
