If you live in fear your life is crippled. You cannot stop bad things from happening, you do not have control over it. But school shootings, child abductions, etc. are still truly a rare occurrence.
I have lost two young members of my immediate family in senseless tragedies. Neither of them could have been expected or prevented. I know I could not have protected them, unless I had locked them in the house 24 hours a day.
You just have to try and make the most of each day.

Do you mean afraid of a shooting type situation because of what happened in Va? My brother has two young girls, and he restricts their access to news reports, or watches the news with them to explain tramautic things to them (but they really don't have much interest in news shows). I'm sure they hear things in school, but I guess the only thing to do is reassure them that their school is safe, and that it's well protected.
