Type 56 assault rifles. they look allot like the AK-47, but are being replaced last I heard by the QBZ-97 family of assault rifles. Those are actually pretty cool looking kinda like the British AUG. Also the QSZ-92 pistol and tanks are the Type 99. Not very original on the naming convention though

China: has some long range capability, covering most of continental USA. they have stated a "no-first-use' policy, even over the impending Taiwan crisis. Their real competition is economic and political, threatening to dominate the world markets. Russia is trying to sell strategic bombers and nuclear subs which would be of concern. There is some potential for future nuclear confrontation, but presently we are in a nuclear standoff with them.

Since the mid-1990s, the army has shrunk from about 100 divisions to approximately 50, with many of the units downsizing to brigades. The PLA also has three Airborne divisions and two Marine brigades.

In September 2003 China announced more cuts to its military, currently the largest standing armed force in the world. Former President Jiang Zemin, who heads China's Central Military Commission, announced the government plans to cut 200,000 troops from its force by the end the year 2005. The newest cuts would bring the size of the People's Liberation Army to 2.3 million.

In September 2004 Taiwan Defense Minister Lee Jye said that the PRC was likely to have 800 ballistic missiles aimed at Taiwan before the end of 2006. He noted that China already had 600 short range missiles within range of the island. Lee’s estimate was less than that put forward by Taiwan vice president Annette Lu, who said that China’s SRBMs targeting Taiwan would reach 800 by 2005.
