if "all" we all knew as real were to be symbolic, then there would be another reality behind this "symbolic" reality that would explain the existence of this symbolic reality.

It is all symbolic.

We see nothing. We experience nothing. Everything we see or do is just a reflection of what is actually there. You do not see a chair. You see light reflecting off the chair. You can never truly see what the chair looks like. You can never understand the true essence of chair-ness.

Language is similarly symbolic. In fact, it is symbolic by definition. Language must be meaningful, be productive and have displacement. Meaningful means symbolic. "Symbols are arbitrarily assigned to objects, but those symbols are constant so they can carry meaning" (Franzoi).

I believe it is all symbolic. I don't really think Thor is a redbearded man pulling a wagon through the sky. I understand it was just a way for my ancestors to grasp the concept of something most people find at least a little inconceivable. It was something familiar, in other words.

The crucifixion of Jesus did reallly happen, but the resurrection did not physically or literally happen; it was only a vision that the disciples had. So the resurrection is symbolic.

Mythology IS symbolic. If you take it literally it looses any beauty it once had.
