I would send the response card back stating that no one will be attending and then I would send a card with the gift a week or so before the wedding.

Either way would be fine. But if I were receiving it I think I would appreciate it with the response. Since its a monetary gift I would be able to use it for the wedding as well and not just after the wedding. There are always little details that one wants to do, if only they could stretch the buck!

Use the Response card as intended - to reply you will not attend. Purchase a separate card to send your gift in.

separate card, the response card is solely that, monetary gifts should be sent closer to the wedding as well as a card wishing the new couple luck and happiness

You should let them know that you will not be attending and then you can send them the card with the gift later. It isn't necessary to wait till the wedding to give your gift - you can do so as soon as you get invited if you wish.

I would send the RSVP card first. Then closer to the wedding date, send a card with the gift.
