....but then forget and you have to go through the whole freakin thing again? There - now I feel better.

Dude, I run into this on a daily basis. My co-worker doesn't seem to grasp the "complexities" of formatting a simple business letter. Pretty standard knowledge for a secretary.

I don't know how many times I showed her how to do it, did it in front of her and even wrote the instructions down for her - only to have them "lost".

You've just described my situation with my sister-in-law perfectly. Even when she does write something down, about half the time she doesn't do it correctly. And no matter how many times you tell the proper pronunciation of a name, she invariably mispronounces it anyway.

I try to stay patient because there is obviously something psychological going on here. She's got some mild learning problems, but nothing that causes this level of difficulty. And it's not just me and my teaching methods -- she's like this with everybody.

Now *I* feel better, too!

Yes, yes, yes!

I have trained so many people through the years and that is the first thing I tell them...take notes. Then if they come and ask me again, I asked if they checked their notes.

I even went as far as doing manuals with as many details and examples as possible. So they had no excuse for not knowing how to do their job.

YES! I work in a customer service call center and the guy that sits next to me asks me the same questions ALL the time and he never writes the answers down, makes me want to choke him.

Obviously this has happened more than once to you. So, who is the dummy ? Why don't you have it written down to give them ?
