the best way to get rid of fleas is by drowning them in water. I have pasted a link below to help you better. I hate fleas as well so I am always up to date on them. :-)

Actually, while they are in water it causes them to lose mobilization but it doesn't kill them; but being submerged in water for a while does eventually kill them. It is important to follow with flushing, or vacumming and not wait to see what the outcome of the fleas are."
Here is an excerpt that a young woman wrote concerning fleas.
"We held the cats in lukewarm water that was up to their necks for a little less than 5 minutes because we read that fleas drown underwater. That worked really well because in the first minute we saw fleas floating around. Then we used Dawn and it worked! I was so surprised, and now my cat's fur is so soft. We were scared that it would dry up their skin, but it's softer than ever. We checked their fur this morning and we did not spot anything crawling around. We made sure to vacuum everything.

Fleas dont drown. They just float on top of the water until another host comes along.
Sounds like you need to get some flea preventive on the dogs and in your home.
Wash all the bedding in the washing machine and clean the area where your dogs are. I'd bomb the house with a flea bomb.

Although you see dead fleas in the water, their eggs are still alive and attached to your dogs fur. Why haven't you taken them vet? If you do not break the life cycle by using something like Advantage (though I don't know if it is safe for pups) you will never get rid of fleas! You should also know that the pups may become anemic from blood loss. Do the responsible thing and get your dogs treated.

Fleas can't swim, so they will die, but the best thing to do for fleas is:
1) Frontline your pet monthly
2) Wash/vacuum all areas pets sleep/spend time
3) Have an exterminator come to kill adult fleas (will not kill eggs)
4) Have your pet(s) removed and "de-flead" on the same day your home is treated
Then you need to continue to vacuum daily. You need to keep the vacuum bag in the freezer because fleas can actually escape the vacuum bag.
I had to have an exterminator come twice but finally the fleas were gone. Also check for their larvae (disgusting and purple-looking) behind sofa cushions and in dog's bedding.
Good luck stopping the vicious cycle of fleas!

Go to the pet store and get advantage for the fleas. it is about 50.00 for a box and it lasts 4 months. Water will not work to get rid of fleas. They breed in 9 days faster then a cat breeding .

Instead of going through all that (and having your poor dogs irritated by fleas) why don't you just use Frontline Plus on them. MUCH easier and better.

To make sure they die put them in ice cold water so they will freeze to death and then flush them down the toilet. You could also put them in boiling hot water!
