When I was in we used white phosphorous rounds for smoke screens. My hunch is the Marines at Fallujah were using it for the same reason.
The Ranger is correct the insurgents are using chemical warfare (a direct violation of the Geneva Convention which is absent from the news) exploding tanker trucks filled with Chlorine gas. Chlorine was one of the most common chemical agents used on the battlefields of World War One.

I would say read the statement carefully..."Nobody is really outraged that the insurgents used chemical "dirty " against civialians in bagdad," Which means Nobody (alluding to world community) is really outraged chemical warfare is being used by insurgents - "but they ***** if you use willie pete against insurgents." - meaning the military use of WP is frowned upon by "they"( I suppose that person was alluding to the media) There is nothing incorrect or inconsistent in that statement. Is WP y? I don't think that anything that burns flesh off is y but apparently it is a legal and effective manner of practicing counter-terrorist and counter insurgency activities.

You should remind him that the Nuremberg Trials sentenced quite a few people for such acts and it is an illegal act under any number of laws, whether domestic, UCMJ, or international.
It is not a valid argument to say "X did Y so A can do B". He may as well say that because the insurgents wear shoes he should allowed to rape at will. It's the same argument in terms of justification and structure and it's just as falicious. Essentially, he's wanting to become as pathetic and morally bankrupt as those he is fighting. Why would he be deserving of any respect if he wants that? He's telling you he's no better than the people he's fighting.
And you quoted him talking about insurgents, not civilians, btw. Doesn't change the crappiness of his agument, but it is a simple point to get right.

Do you know an Army Ranger or are you just asking a hypthetical question? If you're asking a real question, is this quy a real Army Ranger or is he a quartermaster type trying to imrpress the girls? I don't think a real Army Ranger would talk to anyone about possible war crimes that he may have committed. The military hyarchy is too sensative to any war possible hint of war crimes right now and if anyone was committing this act, they would be alll over it.

He's not talking about using it against civilian.. he's talking about using thermal weapons against insurgents. And he is right. There is a horrible double standard applied to the members of military for the western powers. The entire time the conduct of insurgents and terrorists is excused out of a false sense of guilt.

Civilians are not insurgents or terrorists. Once you become a combatant you're no longer a civilian.
That being said I wouldn't respond to the Army Ranger.

I would congratulate him for his service and because any weapon required against an enemy is ok by me. Morals are only good if you are sitting 10 thousand miles away, fat dumb and happy. When you are in a combat situation, anything goes.

Did you make up this quote?
If you did not - you got taken in by a fake. And I bet you cannot even figure out why I can tell that the comment is BS.

I have to say, you really are starting to really p*ss me off with your fascination with WP and its use in Falujah. That fight is over. Leave the politicians to learn their lessons from it and stop annoying people here in the military section with your boring bollox!
