I have often heard quoted on here, along with my understanding of Christianity, that God could cure the ill, feed the starving and stop wars etc, if he wanted. Why then would you chose to follow a God with so little benevolence or humanity. A god that has the power and yet CHOOSES not feed a starving baby? A God that chooses not to house the homeless? A God that could bring World peace but Chooses not to?

Am I understanding what you are saying? you in the free Western World have been bestowed with the choice as to whether you believe or not and the inhumanities exist so that your god can allow you free will? Well I never!

Just because you haven't seen the pain and starvation with your own eyes does not mean it is not happening, I lived in Africa for 18 years, it does happen that babies are born into pain and starvation, I did not say on the side of the street, how could it be the parents fault.
I am NOT blaming God, I don't believe, it's nonsensical.

Yes i understand how u feel but man is to blamed for this. When adam sinned we fall from our place.Sin brought all these things into. But if u look more clearly its actually more christians that help the poor and the oppressed.
But GOD is awesomely powerfully that he can do what u said he chooses not to do.But to do it he has to be asked.Because of free will.We dont know why continent africa is the only which became like that.We cant do something thats lost. But together we can do something about its future. Why not we all pray about it.Why not we all cut on some of our luxuries or things we might not actually need and donate that money to africa. Why not we take all the useless things we dont need and send them to africa like old clothes etc.But u see that in bible lazarus has a life thats pretty sorrowful yet he blessed in heaven.GOD will do justice.
Isaiah 49:15 states though a mother forgots he will remember.
Singly we cant help. But we if togetherly help than surely africa will be in bliss in no time. But sadly due to the selfishness we just neglect the poor of this world. But JESUS didnt when he was on earth he was with the poor and less acknowledge ones.Surely that shows that GOD does not neglect them
Remember them in your prayers and help them whenever u can.

People of various religions have gone to their religious leaders and teachers to ask why there is so much suffering. Often, the response is that suffering is God’s will and that he long ago determined everything that would ever happen, including tragic events. Many are told that God’s ways are mysterious or that he brings death upon people—even children—so that he can have them in heaven with him. As you have learned, though, God never causes what is bad. The Bible says: “Far be it from the true God to act wickedly, and the Almighty to act unjustly!”—Job 34:10.
Do you know why people make the mistake of blaming God for all the suffering in the world? In many cases, they blame Almighty God because they think that he is the real ruler of this world. They do not know a simple but important truth that the Bible teaches. You learned that truth in Chapter 3 of this book. The real ruler of this world is Satan the Devil.
The Bible clearly states: “The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.” (1 John 5:19) When you think about it, does that not make sense? This world reflects the personality of the invisible spirit creature who is “misleading the entire inhabited earth.” (Revelation 12:9) Satan is hateful, deceptive, and cruel. So the world, under his influence, is full of hatred, deceit, and cruelty. That is one reason why there is so much suffering.
A second reason why there is so much suffering is that, as discussed in Chapter 3, mankind has been imperfect and sinful ever since the rebellion in the garden of Eden. Sinful humans tend to struggle for dominance, and this results in wars, oppression, and suffering. (Ecclesiastes 4:1; 8:9) A third reason for suffering is “time and unforeseen occurrence.” (Ecclesiastes 9:11) In a world without God as a protective Ruler, people may suffer because they happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It is comforting for us to know that God does not cause suffering. He is not responsible for the wars, the crimes, the oppression, or even the natural disasters that cause people to suffer. Still, we need to know, Why does God allow all this suffering? If he is the Almighty, he has the power to stop it. Why, then, does he hold back? The loving God that we have come to know must have a good reason.—1 John 4:8.

The earth is capable of feeding all people, but mankind has chosen to misuse the earth's resources and the production of food and spend billions of dollars on such things as war and space exploration. That money could be used to feed every starving person and supply everyone with adequate housing. People always want to blame God, when it is their selfishness and bad judgements that cause so much suffering.
God knows just how bad things are and in his letter to us, he gives us his promise that conditions will soon improve.
Some of these promises include:
1 Earth will be transformed into a global paradise
2 Hunger and poverty will end
3 There will be no more sickness or death
4 No more wars
5 Peace and security worldwide (Satan & his demons and all who follow them will be gone forever)
6 Animals will no longer fear us or bring any harm
7 All who have fallen asleep in death will be resurrected back to life
8 No more homelessness
9 No more terrorism or violence of any kind
10 All people will be united in true worship. Racism will not exist.
These are but a few of the many blessings that God's heavenly government will bring to the earth and all those who desire to live under such wonderful conditions.
I hope this helps.

I do believe alot of what you have said! I use to be a strict chrisitian until my some one close to me waskilled, i have never stepped in a church as a christian since, However i do believe that people should be allowed the beliefs and we should berate them for it. I dont agree with them standing in the middle of towns preaching the bible to everyone and i also hate it when i drive past a church and they have signes hanging all over it saying god loves you etc etc but again, we are on this planet as a test no other reason, who knows what happens when you die, you will find out when it happens. I want to be a good person for my own reasons not that i care whether theres a heaven or not!! Blimey sorry mega long answer there!!

Maybe this scenario will help.
Lets say you are head of your family. A very big family. Some members love you. Some hate you.
Some don't even think you exist. Some help you.
Some beat on you, cursing you all day long. Some claim that you are not the head but the guy across the street is. Some think you are stupid and cruel. Some despise and spit at you.
These are all members of your family. So then you decide to call each one to your side and try to help them. You are ignored by most of the family. They laugh and make fun of you.
They go about their lives and have children who are born into dire circumstances. You could help them and sometimes you do, when they are not looking. But when you do offer help they are too busy looking at devised head of the family. When they really get into trouble, some come to you and ask for help. You give it them generously and they take it without saying thank you. Later on you see how they make fun of you or deny you once again.
You have been the head of your family for thousands of years and yet 98% of your family could care less who you are even though you have supplied them with food, shelter and water.

Good question...I would also add why would a peson CHOOSE to follow, worship, and even believe in a God like this? Clearly 'God' is a contradiction in and of Himself.
Edit/Add: Mojack makes some very good points as well. If this 'God' were capable of what the Bibles claims he is, he wouldn't have had to sacrifice his only son and put him through all of that pain in order to save humanity. If this 'God' were so omnipotent, he would be able to save humanity with the blink of an eye...the whole sacrifice mumbo jumbo wouldn't even be necessary. And how do Christians explain the evil in the world? Simple: make up an opposing force who seems to be just as powerful as the 'good' force (God) and call it Satan and blaim all the evil in the world on Satan and the eternal battle of good vs. evil. Then again, if God were so omnipotent, couldn't he either destroy Satan or make him 'good'? And God created everything according to Christian beliefs so this would mean he created Satan, correct? Therefore how could a God so good, so loving, and so powerful create something evil in the first place?

I've never seen a baby lying on the side of the street starving to death. If there is such a thing, it's probably the parents fault.
Although there are missionary jobs that help house the homeless, I would first want to house me before I housed anyone else. That, and I don't want to get my hands all dirty with Christianity.
World peace? Hmm...first I'd need to speak every language.

The secret is that God is within each of us, so it is within our power to choose - Why does man choose not feed a starving baby? Why do we not choose to house the homeless? And why does man want to keep killing and causing global warming?
Man could bring about World peace but Chooses not to.
Why - because Man always like to pass the buck, instead of getting off his backside and doing something about himself.

God wants people to be His agents for change in this world. The problem is that too many people who claim to follow Him don't have their priorities anywhere near what they should be. Check out the first two links below about a project a friend of mine has just started.

Oh yea of little faith, just look around you at all the wonderful things in this world that HE does do. That is so typical to always fault HIM for the things HE does not do. Just imagine this world with no GOD in it. JUst for one hour. IT would be even more chaotic than it already is. ITs not that HE has not chosen to do those things, HE does things in HIS timing, not ours. HE intervenes on a daily basis, minutes, seconds go by and HE is constantly doing things. Maybe you should stop watching the NEWS and start looking around at all the wonderful things HE hath made. PEACE
