Why does the rational human being persist so hard with existence when he/she knows that it is futile and death is the only thing one can be absolutely sure of? Normally the rational human mind will not allow persisting with anything that is surely known to be futile?

I think we can all agree that one day death will over take us all, but in the meantime, why not enjoy the GIFT of life, instead of looking at life as a RIGHT ? God instilled in us the will to live, and that will is very strong or very weak, depending on our level of suffering. I treat each day I am able to get up and interact with all my friends and family as a gift. Each new day is one more to be thankful for. Although physical death is a certainty, our soul will live on, SOMEWHERE, in Heaven of Hell, and each one of us has the freedom to decide in which place we spend eternity. I live for Him, therfore, I don't despair when some things go wrong, and believe me, my life has been a roller coaster. Finally I landed on all fours and found the reason for being here, and that is doing what I am doing right now, talking to all you nice folk out there. I pray you all have a good day, another gift from He who loves us ALL !

Existence is not futile, even if it does end in death. I enjoy my life. I have had children, which extends human kind. I have contributed to the good of the world. I do not need an afterworld to make my life meaningful. We create our own meaning.

As a Christian I like to live my life believing that I will have life after death. I serve God and believe in Him so I can an eternal life in Heaven.

Now, If I am right, then I will be blessed after death and live for ever in the tranquility of the presence of Jesus and the Almighty God.

If I am wrong, then what do I have to loose?

Who says life is futile?

Sure, everything we do is going to crumble to dust.
Sure, everything we are will fade into memory and then be forgotten.
Sure, humanity and even the universe will cease to exist.

But right now, today, I can do something nice for someone, and when the sands of time run out and all is for naught...

... today I was nice to someone.

if u get down to the BASIC basics....to merely exist in this world, a living creature must have air, water and food. basic existence would constitute breathing, drinking and eating. that is why our survival INSTINCTS come to surface when we're drowning or something....true,one day we all die.but that's no reason to commit suicide is it? and if we're anyway living it, might as well live it in a pleasant, unharmful way

and if u end up doing something that will help mankind , all the better...e.g. if u find a cure for AIDS that will prevent our future generations suffering.it may not help YOU directly but it will help others.

Why do persons like you persist on the "opposite" when CENTURIES of the faithful have proven non-believers as "non-existant" to "our" reality. Let's say, maybe we are wrong, and you are right, at least we have lived our lives out with something in our hearts , though to you it may be delusion, but you need to sit down and ask yourself, why THAT disturbs you so much, as it has the countless many who can't find peace in their lives...............if EVEN in "delusion....."
