Well I am of a different opinion. Eventually, with the lost of manufacturing work & with their lead in technology being cut, I think its just a matter of time that either China or India will over take the US.
India currently is pioneering the Asian boom in computer technology but as far as manufacturing (i.e. automoblies etc), its China by a huge margin.
Have you read that in 2020 China wants to start producing aeroplanes competing with Boeing and Airbus. Scary huh with all the investment the West puts into China only to make it into 1 tough competition.
Well that's the choice we pay in pursuit of money because that's where all the growth is.

I don't believe either nation has immediate plans to take over the United States in terms of territory or occupation.
However, the growth rate of the GDP in China and India have already overtaken that of the United States.
In terms of the GDP numbers, China has an earlier chance of becoming the largest in the world overtaking the US vs. India. Even in that case, it may take a few decades.

"Overtake" or "take over" ? They have different meanings. Take over means to take control of or to conquer. Overtake means to exceed in size, needs or wealth status or others .
I think you mean overtake.
Yes China with its 1.3 billion people will eventually overtake USA in times to come in economic terms, and in terms of GDP but that will take a long time, maybe 50 to 100 years from now. USA now has the technological and military edge, and I don't see China overtaking them even in 100 years. USA will still be the superpower, but with a reduced role in policing the world as they do now.
India ? They will have to sort out the neo-colonialist socialist economic policies first, before talking about catching up with USA or China.
