35mm negatives....

it depends on what stock in particular, but in my experience film starts to bend and quickly melts as you increase temperatures somewhere from 150f to 250f. I've negative stocks projected and burning from the heath of the projector's bulb by just approaching it to a couple of inches.

I think you will find they don't melt, they burn after distorting from initial heat.
Put an old negative, like the dark ends of a roll, in an oven and slowly raise the temp.
