My husband and I are living in US and we have some unpaid balance on our credit cards. I would really like to paid all off but he lost a job a half year ago and I'm making enough money just for rent and bills and for all other stuff we have to charge credit cards. It looks like my husbend is not going to get any job here any more without work permit or greencard so we are force to go back home to Europe. But in our country we would have to work whole life to paid off the balance. I don't know what to do anymore. Should we stay in hope that some day we going to get working papers and charge our credit cards even more for lawyers and stuff or should we go home and leave our credit cards unpaid here? Or should we call them to get some plan so we can paid off in our country. What if we don't make enough money there to paid it off?

It's a really bad idea to live beyond your means, to charge up credit cards, and you're now finding out why.

If you charged up the debt, you're obligated to pay it off. At least you're ethically obligated, if not legally obligated. I am not an expert on the law if you go back to your own country, but you certainly have an ethical obligation to pay.

First of all, let me tell you, what happened has happened. Do not worry about the past. Utilize the present to overcome the problem. I would say, talk to the credit cards company, do let them know your financial status and talk to them about various options available to pay the amount off. Do remember that credit card companies will not penalize you if you are atleast paying something rather than nothing. So, take some time out to discuss this issue with your spouse and credit card company about the debt issue and make proper adjustments to your finances. I bet you, if you follow the above guidelines, you will be out of trouble and will lead happy life in the future. Good Luck to you.
