I have a friend getting married this weekend and she and her fiance aren't registered anywhere. When I talked to her she said they didn't really need anything or have room for anything in their apartment. I know where they are going on their honeymoon and was wondering if it would be tacky to give them a gift card so they could go out for a nice meal. Or should I just go with the old standby Target gift card instead?

I never really considered cash....it just seems a little impersonal for a close friend.

Certainly not! I think that would be a wonderful idea and very appreciated on their honeymoon.

If they didn't register anywhere, then they should (in theory) be happy with what they get or atleast not complain because their guests weren't mind readers.

My husband and I got a ton of gift cards for Target and some cash for our wedding. We took all the cash to spend on stuff we wanted to do & gas money (we got more checks than actual cash- it was only about $450). We took some of the Target gift cards with us too incase we thought of something we forgot and found a Target. We ended up needing a new camera- our battery went dead and we forgot the charger and it was a weird battery no one sold. We used $100 of the Target cards and put it towards an inexpensive digitial camera so we could take pictures to remember our honey moon. We didn't register for much, so it's not like we had to use the cards to buy the left over stuff or anything.

In short, no it wouldn't be tacky. If they don't use it on the honeymoon they can use it when they get home.

All of us need a good friend like you! I think the gift card to be used on the honeymoon is a wonderful idea truly. They will have a nice meal and a great memory that you are the one that made it happen.

Definitely go with your idea! My daughter would have flipped for such a nice gift. Sure could have used one years and years ago myself. Great thinking! Your friend will be so happy with that! And the money they saved from your gift, they can buy some nice souvenirs!

God bless us all................

I think that is a wonderful and personal idea. I received a gift card for The Four Seasons (where we are going on our honeymoon) for my bridal shower. It was one of the more thoughtful gifts so far. We will certainly remember the gift giver when we are using the card at the spa or for a special dinner at the resort.

in my opinion, i love the concept of the internet web site stated previously. soliciting for present playing cards or money is tacky (until eventually you bypass with the Greek, i imagine, custom the position they pin money on your gown really of giving presents) yet putting it on the internet web site is a great way round it. Ive heard it suggested beforehand that telling human beings about the registry is impolite, yet each wedding ceremony I really were to has protected a be conscious with the invitation announcing "on your convenience we've a present registry at ........" which i imagine is amazingly efficient. everyone is time-honored with you provide presents at a wedding ceremony so why beat around the bush a lot? in case you've been to do this, you may want to even element out your customary keep on that be conscious. and that i also agree that you ought to sign up with a authentic keep, not merely on-line. if someone doesnt have a mastercard or paypal they CANT purchase you the things you want.

I'm getting married soon cash would not be bad but the visa gift card sound like a good idea also, if there using a travel agent for there honeymoon (I'm not) sometimes you can pay for extras for them to do.

If she is a close friend, get them a real gift, something personal - an engraved or decorated frame, a personalized throw.
You thinking giving cash is impersonal is odd - because a gift card is the same thing.

I don't think it's tacky BUT, some honeymoons include all inclusive packages so you may be paying for a meal that they weren't going to pay for any way. I would call her (since you already have regarding this issue) and tell her you are finding it difficult since she has everything already etc...I don't think your idea is tacky at all, it's very thoughtful, just make sure it's needed.
