I'm so happy the war was over on that day. Bush never lies. I'm thankful for that.

That’s pretty much my thought without what the president had to say or not. We WON the war and are now fighting for peace. It should be easy to understand for the nuanced liberals out there.

So, how many ORGANIZED, UNIFORMED IRAQI UNITS did the U.S. military engage in combat operations today?

Where are the much-vaunted Republican Guards? The Tank divisions, the Infantry divisions, and all the other major combat elements of the former regime of Saddam Hussein? Why isn't Saddam firing his rifle in the air from the balcony of one of his opulent palaces?

Yes, our soldiers are still fighting over there, but now it is asymmetrical warfare against insurgents. The actions are small ambushes and firefights against a foe that is too gutless to try and slug it out with us in open warfare, so they hide behind women and children in crowds, stash their weapons in hospitals, mosques, and schools, and generally make it very difficult to root them out. They camouflage their weapons as trucks and drive them into the middle of crowds and detonate them because (to paraphrase Tom Lehrer) "the Shia hate the Sunnis, the Sunnis hate the Shia, the Wahabis hate the Sufis, and everybody hates the Kurds."

And then idiots like you, Erudite, come along and post inane rants about the "end of major combat operations". Gee, for someone who has claimed to be a combat veteran, you really don't seem to have a clue about what you are ranting about.

Combat engagements with the Iraqi military did, and that is what was referenced.

Next you will say Harry Truman was a liar because even though the Germany Army was destroyed, Operation Werewolf was in full operation during our occupation of Germany, complete with its terrorism tactics.

Actually Lundstrum is wrong like so many of Bush's cronies. Combat engagements with the Iraqi military have never ended. We allowed the Iraqi military to go home after they surrendered in 2003. They simply went home, changed their clothes and now their blowing us up. So you are flat out wrong, we never stopped fighting the Iraqi military.

I wish it had stopped then my husband and the rest of the troops would be home already. Perhaps we no longer have major fights on our hands but we are still fighting for their democracy with them.

no major combat did not end as evidenced by the need for a surge(escalation).it was just another in a long list of lies.
