On my 1992 Volvo (200,000 miles), the driver's side is 3/4 of an inch lower than the passenger side at all times. When I sit in it, it goes even lower and the car looks lopsided as I drive around. Is this a suspension problem-- fatigued coil springs maybe? What would you recommend?

If you have a sarcastic answer... skip this question and go elsewhere!

while the springs may be sagging several other possibilities exist.
1 if 2 series sedan or wagon the big bushings that attach the differential to the lower trailing arms may be shot.
2 the spring mount on the left strut may have rusted away and given up [i have actually seen this on a poorly kept rust belt car]
3 the top strut bearing/mount rubber gave up
4 frozen strut or shock absorber
hope this helps [ note recommend raising on a lift for complete inspection and ipd usa can help with the needed parts]

When you push down on the drivers side hood does it bounce? Yes it is the struts are probably in need of replacing. Go to meinke or Midas and get an estimate as it would cost way too much at a dealer.

Front strut cylinder may be failing and/or a weak rear coil spring on the driver's side. It's most likely the front strut since coil springs last for quite some time.

check your shocks...
on that side of the car, use your body weight and press down on the car.
did it bounce back and stop or did it bounce back and keep bouncing? if it didn't stop right away, it's the shock.
