I guess one problem is that we are not "supposed" to cry; it's not the done thing and may be seen as a sign of weakness. I however, do cry when the need arises, I have been known to cry over a sad film or a piece of music that has moved me, at the loss of friends and family and with empathy for a friend who is also very upset. I feel that it is better to be in touch with ones emotions and to express them, it is known that one can actually suffer illness in the long term if one does not express their sadness etc by crying...it is a natural release system; it wouldn't be there if we didn't need it!

Because what is the point of crying.
If things are upsetting then ever since my maturity an auto-think mechanism kicks in and you try to find a way past the problem instead of indulging in a crying heap of self-pity about the situation.
I think the only exception is for the loss or sickness of family/friends/loved ones... but not for any ofter reason. Deal with the problem - don't cry about it.

It's difficult; Some guys have been brought up that way. It is a much deeper thing than just crying. It incorporates trust, and not only how you see the guy but also how he looks at himself.
It took me a very long time to be able to cry in-front of my wife, He has to be able to trust you completely, and he needs to know that even if your things ever don't work out you will never reveal the fact that he cries. Yes, I know it is OK for men to cry But from our side it influences the way we stay in control of our lives.

Society and the media has built same to masculinity for adult men and to be a "guy," adult men won't have the ability to cry or tutor "weak point" and "sensitivity." A "guy" must be not common and robust and aggressive. there is in simple terms quite some a commonplace that has been equipped up for women and adult men. yet for adult men, crying is an illustration of emotional alleviation and that's think approximately "vulnerable." truthfully, as human beings, we are all virtually brainwashed via background and its standards for gender roles. a guy isn't much less of a guy if he cries or reflects sensitivity, it in simple terms shows how human he's. even though it is going to be a protracted time returned earlier this stereotype is positioned down.

I cry when I get the urge...
But never in public, only in front of my girlfriend or by myself...
Its supposely a sign of weakness, but if you never cry, then you just get angry and depressed as it all mounts up. Its a relief, I find nothing better when sad to just let it all out, and probably why I'm a generally a happy person.

Because they believe that a real man is supposed to be strong and brave. To them, crying is a sign of weakness and softness and therefore, they are afraid to cry in public lest they be labelled as cissy, soft or weak.

guys arn't afraid to cry, its that from a very early age , most boys are conditioned not to cry, i.e., "stop crying , dont be a baby" or" be a big boy and dont cry" ...this manifests itself later in life in that the only emotion guys can readily access like happiness, anger, saddness, but the more intimate emotions remain hard to access and difficult to display....

My husband doesn't cry but shows his emotions in other ways. I have probally seen him cry twice and it was hard for me to deal with but a big cuddle and kiss sorted it. He was brought up to be a man and not show weakness, which i think is bull**** everyone has feelings. Personally I think it made my husband more of a man and he looked sexy!

Well basically it's a sign of vulnerability and being hurt which we equate to weakness. Society does not encourage men to be weak so men are brought up not to cry.
