With our first puppy, I admit I didn't and he was fed Beneful (yup...crap)
With this whole recall, as bad as it is, the good that has come from it is the fact that people who just grabbed something off the shelf are now reading and researching what's going into their companion animal (cat or dog)
After researching online...day and night for weeks and doing ingredient comparisons our second pup is on Innova there are a couple of other brands I'd try if need be, but she's healthy & happy on Innova.
Orijen is another good food, but can be hard to find at times.

I've had to read the ingredients on dogfoods since I realized my dog had food allergies and I went through the process of figuring out what exactly she's allergic to. I also started looking up what certain ingredients meant, like 'animal fat', well what animal is it from? Who knows, they don't have to say. So my dog only gets food where everything is clearly stated and there is no detective work involved in figuring out what is going into it. She's on Timberwolf Organic now, and I'm very happy with how well she's doing with it.
When I started going through this situation I started talking to my friends about it, most were feeding things like Eukanuba, Nutro, Purina, and Pedigree. I talked to them about what was in their dog foods and how crappy a quality they are and most of them ended up switching and have noticed a significant difference in the appearance of their pets as a result of better nutrition. It only bothers me when people say they don't care, how can you not care when you are feeding your dog some of the worst varieties of food? But those also tend to be the people who don't view their dogs as members of their family, and I tend to not talk with them too much.

Yes... I read the ingredients.
I've just run out of Authority dog food, which I've been feeding to my black lab. It's a decent quality, but I'm now switching her to a better quality: Chicken Soup.
My other dog, husky/chow/pit mix, eats Pedigree. I know Pedigree is a pretty crap food, but this dog is sooooo picky, you wouldn't believe. I tried feeding him his high quality food for months without giving in, and he would only eat enough to get by and was too skinny. I can't feed him raw or anything, as it's too expensive, but... he's been doing fine on it. Currently, he wants to eat the Authority but only b/c my lab eats it. He's jealous. xD So maybe there's a chance I can get him on Chicken Soup too. =P

For dry food, not really. I used recommendations from dog breeders, pet owners and Petsmart. When my dogs used to eat wet food, I would check the ingredients.
Since the pet food scare, I'll be more discriminating.

Yes I do.. It doesnt affect much though.. I feed my dog Purina dog show and puppy show..Science diet once in a while.. So far they have been really good for my dog.. Im againt a lot of brands like Pedigree and what not.. Natural is alright but my dogs dont like it...
I wouldnt worry about the ingredients unless it is wet food..
There are many brands that really arent good.. For example when i feed my dog pedigree he doesnt have that good energy and he sheds excessively

Yes, I have no choice, my German Shepherds have wheat allergies. I feed them Natures Variety Prairie Dry Dog Food and Evangers Canned Dog Food.
They are both super premium dog foods, and my babies are very fit and happy.

Yep. That's why I feed Chicken Soup brand!
(I pay more attention to what my dog eats than to what I eat! LOL)
