I am a owner of a pit bull. I love her to death and they have a bad rap. I have 3 children and she sleeps with them. Pit bulls are made dangerous by there owners and the conditions that they are raised in. We got our pit from a home where she was being locked up in a room all day and only being allowed to use the outside 2 times a day. She hates being locked in a room and cannot stand it when we even close the door to use the restroom. She is not very protective of us either, She does not bark. People come into our yard and she licks them to death. To the people out there that thinks these animals are bad, you are wrong , you are so very wrong. The CDC cannot prove it because there is no evidence that proves that there temperament is genetic. Therefore they have no case. To the people out there that have been bitten by one or been scared of them , do not blame the poor helpless animal. As it is the owner who is to blame and deserves to be punished.

Yes, I know what they look like as I have one. Simple answer to you question, the CDC, and nobody else, can prove they are a dangerous breed. They are not! I have owned many dogs over the years. I would say that a German Shepard is much more protective and thus more dangerous than a Pitt. Small breeds tend to be more nasty then large breeds. I have only bitten by one dog in my life, 65 years, and it was a little thing and had to jump to bit me on the knee.

I have nothing against the breed but I guessed wrong myself. But yes it is a sad fact that people are so quick to blame a pit bull just because people do not know what a pit bull really looks like and they assume every dog that attacks must be a pittbull because of all the sensationalism that surrounds this breed.

Tuesday night, Frt Lauderdale Fl, a pit bull attacks a girl and she runs in the street to avoid the dog. A car hits the girl and the dog bites her again after the car hit her. Another blow to the pit bull family. It is getting really tiring reading about bad owners and not raising a dog right. People here have no idea of what a dog really is or what they are capable of. They think that genetics do not or you can just magicaly erase them. It does not work that way folks. Certain breeds have genetics that predispose them to certain behaviors and no amount of "correct upbringing" will take that genetic factor out of the equation. People need to understand that first, if they hope to help the breed go on. My breed has certain genetic qualities in it that makes it THE ideal working dog, but not a good "pet", whatever that is. By sitting here and denying the existence of these traits in my breed, I am lying to myself and everyone else and I may be placing a dog into a situation that it does not belong. Pits have been bred to fight other animals, period. That is what they were bred to do and that is the way they should still be bred. But, they should be raised by people who know and understand that, not day dreamers who want to deny the very reason the dog was founded in the first place. You want to have one, great, you want one to sleep with the kids, wonderful, you want to believe that it is an angel, outstanding, just be prepared to reap the benefits and consequences of your actions. I know my dog, I know what he is capable of doing and I base my decisions on that alone, not what I am wishing and hoping for, reality. I can go on and on, but this will take forever and I am sure some people here get the point.

You are extremely smart. You need to send that web site around the world. It's completely true. The problem is that "certain people" like to treat them like machines that make money. They are a strong dog and can do damage just like any other large dog. They've gotten a bad name because of their owners. There should always be cautions taken when owning a dog. They ARE animals. The best thing you can do is get that info out into the public. I've had the same arguments though about my Rots and German Shep. When people are afraid, they say stupid *hitt!!!!!!!

Yes. And it is not the dog, it's the owner. I have seen both sides of the coin; a loving owner with a loving, sweet pit bull, versus a piece of work owner who has treated the pit bull as an object. Hope this helps!!! DOGS RULE!!!

I have 6 pit bull puppies and their momma living in my back yard.
YES I know what they look like.

They're not mean animals.
It's not the animals that are mean or crule, it's the owner.

They're just as easily trained not to bite/nip/chew as any other dog. It's up to YOU to do so.
