By the looks of it, I'd say God had never been to Hull.

He is omnipresent, that would mean He is in hell too, but not in the same position as the suffering soul. He is always everywhere with every individual soul, and while we are engaged in enjoying or suffering the fruits of our activities, He is simply watching from the side, without being affected by the results of our actions.

I don't see why not, and to answer kenyai question, they say that because some people apparently believe that after you die, you cannot immediately go to heaven, but must first go to hell for 3 days, or something of that sort, and of course, Jesus, having been human, was no exception. I think it might also have to do with the fact that Jesus was dieing (sp?) for our sins, so the weight of all of our sins could have forced him down to hell for a little bit...
in response to efurong:
I believe its written in the bible (at least my dad who reads the bible says its written in there) that Satan actually sits in heaven pointing out humanty's problems/weaknesses. I've no idea why God doesnt just kick him the hell out (pun intended), but it might have to do with the whole deal with Satan getting any one wish he wanted and him wishing to be more powerful than God thing, see I think God had to comply since he's a God of his word (he has to comply in a few situations where he doesnt want to in the old testament since the Israelites agree to do things then disobey) so as I think it happens, Satan currently has just a lil more power than God, but, God has Michael on his side who has more power than Satan, because in the end Michael is going to wrestle Satan into a pit, as it says in Revelations.

It says in the Bible (Old Testament) "If I make my bed in hell, behold He is there." So the answer is yes. Hell is a translation of Hebrew Sheol (equivalent to Greek Hades). It meant a kind of shadowy abode of the dead, not a place of particular suffering. The ancient Hebrews had only a hazy idea of what, if anything, happens to a person after they die.

Actually, this is quite a good question.
The power of the human mind and free will is that you can create a hell far worse than any Hollwood terror movie and neither God, nor any of the angels can free you from it.
One of the worse kinds of hell is when you find out that something you trusted above all other things turned out to be a heap of evil lies.
Such torment at the point of awakening after death can entrap many a good soul into the service of less honorable spirits.
That is why the revelations during these End Times are so important- because indeed God seeks to free all souls from Hell, but actively encouraging people to free themselves of 2,000 years of terrible lies.
See:

Unfortunately, many of the most honorable of christians will steadfastly believe the religion created by Paul of Tarsus (Christianity) to destroy the religion created by Jesus (Nazarenes) right up until they die.

Hell is NOT a physical realm location. The ENTIRE physical realm will be DESTROYED at Jesus' return:
2Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will DISAPPEAR with a roar. Fire will DESTROY EVERYTHING in them. God will judge the earth and everything in it.
11 SO EVERYTHING WILL BE DESTROYED. And what kind of people should you be? You should lead holy and godly lives.
The spirit realm works by a different set of rules which we do not have explained to us.

No, that is the only place he cannot go! True, Jesus was there but then he ascended into heaven to be seated at the right hand of the father.
