It's not severe -- moderate itching around the corners of my mouth and back of throat. And only during bouts with seasonal allergies. Plus the reaction seems to be worse the riper they are.

Does anyone else have this allergy? What is the common substance or ingredient?

ooh ooh ooh (raising hand) I am. I am allergic to all fruits and veggies actually. How weird is that?! But the kicker is this, it is just one little protein that just so happens to be in all plants that does it to me, so on that level, it is just one thingie that I have an allergy to. So your fruits allergy it's ok and normal. My guess is that you will soon be allergic to other fruits so be careful when you eat any fruit. Yup yup the itchie throat, puffy lips and the space between ears and throat (drives ya nuts huh!) My allergies got better all on their own after...hmm like 15 years. So right now you just have to deal with it, some day they might go away though- your body changes and the little cells that by mistake attack the fruit (B cells) die off and new ones forget to attack that fruit so you will be ok maybe some day. In the mean time- I got 2 tips for you. Always carry an Epi pen..do you have one? Ask the doc for one. If you can get 2. Keep one at home and one with you or at work or school. I'm gonna be honest I do not always carry mine (camon doesn't really fit in my trendy bag) but you should. And my #1 tip- go out and buy kids liquid benadryl. This stuff saved me soooo many times! I have 4 bottles all over the place as my just in case saver. Oh and yea kids stuff..why you ask? what you do is this. Say you eat a cantalope and then poof, you are crazy itchie. Take a SMALL swig of the liquid and swich it around your mouth, keep it in your mouth as long as you can. then s.l.o.w.l.y let it drip down your throat, I swear within 1 to 3 minutes you feel better!!! It works fast and is the #1 quickest antihistamine, but only take a little, you dont need a whole dose of it. Try it next time you have a food allergy and see what I mean.
Good luck and be safe :)

I used to by like Jenny M. I was allergic to nearly all raw fruits and vegetables. I did not even have to swallow the food to have a reaction, just getting it on my skin was enough. After getting allergy desensitation shots for five years, my fruit and vegetable allergy went away. Now I can even eat a salad!

If you are getting that kind of reaction stay away from them. If not it could turn on
you in a real hurry. Take it from someone who found out the hard way. I can't
go near peanuts, grapefruit, cauliflower, green peppers, etc. I get sick to my
stomach, nausea and the pain increases over several days. And itching around
my mouth and tongue is fun. Then there are the hives; hives are a riot. : {
Please be careful and take some advice: if you know you are even mildly allergic
to something, stay away from it. Good luck.
