Does a mind use the brain and the rest of the body or does the brain produce its own mind?

If brain controls the body, who or what controls the brain? Is the brain completely autonomous? Does the brain produce the mind? Since the brain controls the body through chemical means, why does it produce a mind?

Mind forms the brain, the body, and all matter. In doing so, mind "becomes" what it forms. As long as it is forming the body, mind "agrees" with itself to be partially tied to, thus affected by, the brain. But the truth is that mind is independent of all physicality. The brain cannot produce anything. When mind stops its association with brain, the brain stops functioning, but mind continues eternally (in our terms of time).

The brain produces the mind (sentience) by virtue of its electro-chemical storage system. Your awareness of your own existence is a by product of the minute changes that take place over time in the neural pathways, which are stored as chemical reactions. The awareness of past, present and future are what imbue the mind with its perception of "existing" as an entity in time and space. If you didn't experience the passage of time, you probably would not "be."

This may be why certain drugs that alter our perception of time by slowing or freezing it, are sometimes referred to as being "mind-expanding" drugs, or why practitioners of Zen meditation often describe zen as living a lifetime in a single moment.

The brain and the rest of the body is the physical counterpart of the mind. The mind exists first and creates the body in it's image; your physical body hungers for food and thirsts for drink, your mind hungers for meaning and thirsts for understanding.
