So about 3 years ago, I went and saw my doctor about a lump that had been developing on the back-left side of my neck, more near my back than my chin. He said I shouldn't worry too much about it, as long as it goes away. Well, since it's been 3 years since then, and it's still there.. And every so often I get very minor pain near that area as well. Can anyone tell me what it is exactly, or if I should just go see my doctor about it again?

I've been reading up a little more about it, and I've been seeing that if it has been the same size and everything for a long time, then there's nothing to worry about.. Is this true?

If it helps at all, I'm 18, I made some stupid decisions when I was like 7 and decided to smoke.. But haven't smoked since I was 7 1/2, lol. My mom smoked and drank when I was in her.. Which is why I'm worried that it could be a kind of cancer =/ Which would blow. Yep. Anyway.

I also feel I should give all the information, so lately (in the past 6 months), I've been coughing up alot of mucus from the back of my throat from time to time. I seem to always have mucus back there, no matter what time of day it is, and it gives me REALLY bad breath... But more importantly, I'm hoping it could be a symptom that'll tell me what it is, exactly.

I dunno, it kind of makes the same sound as the rest of my neck does.

There is one lump, but if I feel it, I can move it around and there seems to be one bigger lump next to a smaller lump. Overall, I'd say it's about 1" by 3/4". If I squeeze it, I can kind of pull the ball-things a little bit away from my neck, but it seems like they're still connected.

Its just a lump, we all get them and sometimes they do vanish. However I am glad you are keeping a eye on it and it has not changed shape or size. If it bothers you that much, ask the Doc to remove it!

it is a fat-filled sac. my grandma had one on her back and they cut it off. it is a scar, and when you hit that place it sounds hallow, after her cut it off. only the doctor can take it off though.
