the truth is a combination of the two. cardio increases you heart rate causing you to burn more calories and weightlifting increases your muscle mass which muscle burns more calories than fat. one option is to turn your lifting routine into cardio here is how you do it go to the gym and warm up by doing cardio for 5-10 minutes enough to get your heart rate up then lift weights your heart rate will be up for the remainder of you work out causing you to lose more fat while building muscle. if you need add some more cardio to the end of your workouts, if you do to much cardio prior to lifting you will be fatigued and you wont get a good workout

a combo of both. cardio burns off fat, but by building more lean muscle from lifting, you burn off more fat.
