You need salt for a healthy body. What you have to do is make sure you wash the body out with lots of water. 6-8 glasses is highly recommended. I eat salt and salty foods all the time, but I know I am healthy because I drink 2-3 gallons of water per day. You will urinate out any excess water. Read the "healthy salt" websites.

Take food that are less salty. Go for the food label; low salt and see the percentage of sodium. Preserved canned food and chillie sauce are very high in sodium. Fast food. Soft drinks for people who exercise. Eat at home instead of eating out.

Salt and sugar act as a preservative, so food that are preserved normally are high in salt or sugar, or both (you won't be able to know that it is salty or sweet when both are combined, the taste would be just right)

Don't use salt when you're cooking
Don't salt food before you taste it!
Substitute herbs and spices as food flavoring
Eat less processed foods, as they tend to contain a high amount of salt
Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables
Look at food labels as a lot of them will say low salt or low sodium
Low fat dairy as well will have a lower level of sodium

Rather than purchasing prepackaged food, go for fresh, because sodium (salt) is a preservative and therefore is not used in fresh foods. Also, try not to add salt to your food at the dinner table, because this is where most people go above their recommended intake.

Fast Foods are Chronically high in Sodium- if you can put the salt shaker away- & cut down on the fast foods, chips & sports drinks, you should be fine. Try it out for a couple of weeks- & see i you notice any difference. Good luck!

Try and eat more fresh food then processed.Processed food has hidden things (like sodium) in them that they don't Tell you about.With fresh food,at least you know what you get.

Read labels on food packages. they list the sodium content and either pick one with the lowest number or use unprocessed similar food.
