try a brand called "special effects", u can usually find it at hot topic, ebay or here http://www.specialeffectsusa.com/hair_dye.html
i used to use "manic panic", but it always washed out too quickly...i would be re-touching my color every other week-what a pain in the a**!!!...both "manic panic" & "special effects" are semi-permanent, meaning u will lose a bit of color every time u shampoo...but i used "atomic pink" in the "special effects" line around 2 months ago, & the color is still very vibrant!!! but u will have to take care, because swimming, especially in chlorinated water, will take a toll on hair...even more so if u have processed it by bleaching, dying, etc....i don`t know if u plan to strip the color out of your hair or not before u dye it (i have to, because my natural shade is dark brown, almost black...i bleach mine til it is white), but even if u don`t, u will still need to use a good protective shampoo that will help preserve your color...i use tigi bedhead dumb blonde, it works well for any color-processed hair, not just blonde...it really leaves my hair soft & shiny & keeps the color lively...hope this helps u!!!
here are some consumer reviews on the "special effects" hair dyes...

I dyed my hair pink last summer and my hair was a medium brown. There's a couple of of things that you need to know about unnatural hair dyes. Firstly, all of them are semi-permanent and all of them require serious bleaching beforehand. I would recommend either Manic Panic Flashlighting 30 vol or Special Effects 30 vol bleach if you can. Manic Panic is good if you want a temporary effect, but Special Effects is better is you want something a little more permanent. It's pretty vivid, longlasting colour. There are some caveats. First of all, it gets on everything, especially on the first week or two after dyeing and will stain your clothes, pillows, bedsheets, bath towels etc, if you're not very careful. Luckily my hair was only about three inches long when I did mine, so it wasn't much of a problem. Your hair may also not hold dye very well. Mine doesn't. When I use a normal permanent hair dye, the colour fades on me within a month, and my Special Effects would fade unevenly especially around my forehead and neckline, though it was fine at my crown. However, most people I have spoken to say that Special Effects lasts forever on them and they are more likely to have a hard time getting it out than getting it to stay. It typically is supposed to last 40-60 washes, but anecdotal evidence shows that it tends to last about 80. As for swimming, use a leave in conditioner and a swim cap, because your hair is bleached and the colour is vivid, your hair is very vulnerable to chlorine. As for dyeing every week, the bottles have a lot of dye in them which smells and feels like fingerpaint, and it's pretty easy to do touchups. They take about 5 minutes to do and you have to wait for 20, so it's not a big deal. I will warn you, I spent almost a hundred dollars switching my hair back at a professional salon, so be prepared to shell out the bucks. All in all, the whole experience was completely and totally worth it. I wish you the best
