I agree that you should RESPECT GOD not fear HIM.
To "fear the LORD GOD" is to RESPECT HIM not to cringe in "fear" because you do not trust HIM.
To "fear GOD" is to not trust HIM.
TO TRUST GOD IS TO BOW IN TOTAL RESPECT.

NOTICE that I addressed this question to CHRISTIANS.
IF you are not a CHRISTIAN then be in stark TERROR of THE ONE WHO IS ABLE to cast your soul into eternal hell FOREVER.
( believe IN THE LORD JESUS )

I do believe and I also forget sometimes to not sweat the small stuff...
Can we really not fear anything? My husband wont let my kids walk home from school...precaution, that seems to be a form of fear. What is it that guides us, just wisdom? Fear is a sin but maybe we shouldn't be so afraid of it...he-he (afraid..get it)
anyway, but when you feel all hope is lost, it is not, because the Lord in heaven hears our cries and we have to remember that he doesn't give us more than we can handle..
And we are tougher than we think!!!
Praise God, Oh merciful Lord, Forgive us for not trusting in you
Thanks again Dave.

Something to consider within your thesis:
Genesis 42:18 And Joseph said unto them the third day, "This do, and live; for I fear God:"
Exodus 18:21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
Psalm 66:16 Come, and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
Ecclesiastes 8:12 Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and prolong his days, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:
Ecclesiastes 12:13 This is the end of the matter; all hath been heard: fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.
Luke 23:40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Dost thou not even fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?"
Acts 13:16 And Paul stood up, and beckoning with the hand said, "Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, hearken."
Acts 13:26 "Brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to us is the word of this salvation sent forth."
1st Peter 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
Revelation 14:7 and he saith with a great voice, "Fear God, and give Him glory; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship Him that made the heaven and the earth and sea and fountains of waters."
**Not ALL fear is sin, dear one.**
Peace.

Fear of silly things isn't a sin it's just not good "form" for lack of a better word. The Bible says fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom. It also says fear not he who can destroy body only but fear He who can destroy both body and soul. It's important to fear the Lord because he is a jealous God. He said He would have no other God's before him. And in Isaiah 54:17 it says no weapon formed against us shall prosper. So it's good to fear the Lord but not the worldly things.

I do have fears at times however, God has taught me that fear is an emotion that reminds me to come to Him with my concerns.
Sometimes I find myself saying that I am afraid about something. I pray and quickly change that word to concern, after releasing it to God, instead of staying afraid.
I do not feel that to have the emotion of fear is a sin. It's what you do with it that can become harmful to you. Do you stay in that fear? Or do you take the fear to God?
Jesus tells us that He came to set us free from death and fear. And He does.
Godly fear is a different thing. We must fear God. Which means to respect Him with awe and reverence. Because He rules everything.

I think you are right and I too believe fear is the opposite of faith but I do believe fear can raise up in us and we have to beat it back down by prayer and the washing of God's word daily. I know that Jesus is able and I also know that He has given us authority on this earth to do greater things than He did. Are we willing to be prayed up and ready when called upon to work the signs and wonders? Fear is a human thing but we are aliens in this place and a peculiar people, not of this world.

Fear is a human emotion. It is not necessarily a lack of faith. I am scared of pain, just as Jesus Christ was and is. Living in constant fear can, but does not necessarily, show a lack of faith. If I worry all the time about money, it shows that I believe money gives me security, not God who has the power to send me all the money I need. No, I do not believe that God simply gives people money when they ask for it. It is all about intention and about what God is doing at that point to change your life.

Fear is not a sin. It's a combination of physiological and psychological triggers. Fear is a very important survival tool, and it's common to all human beings. Fear can save your life, if you have the good sense to properly understand it and respond appropriately. People who claim not to be afraid just haven't been in the right situation yet.

Yeah, sometimes I do get afraid it is a natural human emotion.
It is not the fear that is the problem it is the response to it.
That's where faith and courage come in. So fear is not a sin but many of the reactions to fear are.

No. I have Jesus to help me. It is said that there are 365 verses in the Bible on fear, one for each day.
I have not been given the spirit of fear, but a sound mind.

I do fear things and concider my own fear to sometimes be sinnful because they come from temporary lack of faith. The things of this world I commonly fear are my ability to support and protect my family in this sinful and ever changing world and I also fear that loved ones will pass away without the loving knowledge of our savior.
