We were told by the high echelons of the army that the 'fog of war' made it confusing. 'I love working for Uncle Sam/makes me know just who I am'...allegedly. This is not a new thing - on the other side of the coin (and the mass of agua known as the Atlantic), we're not too clean in the UK with certain soldiers in Iraq thinking it's 1942, with everything to play for (and the press hurrah-ing their actions) - but the British public receiving bits of news here and there of soldiers and battalions acting like bullies in playgrounds...but with guns against innocent Iraqis who they decided to snatch from the streets because most were bored.
Why do the people amongst the most powerful in the world have this need to Rambo-ise and 'sex-up' stories? They do their countries no good...we may have got away with it 65 years ago, but the ease in which we all can attain truth about wars today should have made US come to their senses.

Sorry again, Sunshine - you're right! So...it's a continent that lies to it's people - sounds even more damning than a mere 'country'.

That may be so, Canute...but like most others, suspect you only splurged such an answer for the two points. Well done to you!

Damn...was always told you didn't need too many words to anger Americans. My question was not composed to do so...indeed, added the mirror trickery of the British press also. Anyways - if I've upset some of you, then I'm sorry. You can get your own back by asking a question concerning the 'relationship' between the US and the UK - the subject of why does some of our politicians eagerly suck the derriere of your President. I'm sure some of the answers to the question will be as petty, personal and sneery as some of yours are to mine...thank you.

Thank you, Shakespeare...was meaning to tell 'Sunshine'. Both 'Americas' made a 'continent', but as my question was about North America, thought I'd shut up!

Jessica was in the Army, and in the Army you go along, or you suffer the consequences. And do not blame this on the "Christians" or on the people of the United States. The entire Iraq War is a botched up project of the arrogant simple-minded moron named George Bush, who is living in a state of denial, and expects to sacrifice the blood and treasure of the United States in a sectarian civil war that has been going for 13 centuries.

Jessica Lynch is just one of many heroes who became heroes in the hearts of Americans. Early on, Jessica's condition and whereabouts were unknown.Any thing was possible at that point but nobody knew for sure. She was missing and a hero. If you want to rag on some rotten people, try ragging on the Islamic terrorists who started all of this in the first place. You obviously don't know much about history or geography and I hope you will continue your studies to that endeaver. North America is a continent, not a country. The United States Of America and Canada are both separate countries in North America. A lot of people have mis-spoken about things during this war. Some intentional and some not. I don't think you meant to do away with Canada or make it part of the USA but you did make a mistake. I will guarantee you one thing, "The radical islamic terrorists are the enemy and they are everywhere" They must be dealt with now .

It's a force of habit. America has told so many porkies that they just keep churning them out through habit. The problem is that most Americans actually believe all the lies. Like the one where North America is a continent in it's own right. They made that up as well. When I was a school the "Americas" were a continent, meaning North and South America. Obviously North America decded that they wanted to be a continent all by themselves so they just lied and said that North America was a continent and all the Americans believed it. Lies, lies, lies.

The U.S. media enlarged the story of Jessica Lynch so their networks could make made for TV movies. The U.S. media isn't reporting on American and British soldiers that are actually getting top awards.
The U.S. and British are fighting Arabs that go out of their way to bomb schools, hospitals, mosques, Muslim pilgrams and even the main book stores and auto shops in Iraq. They film the beheading of women and then send the film to the local news so they can brag how tough they are. They like (to it being socially acceptable) to beat their own women and children too. They also dig up their dead and then claimed they were recently killed for the second and third time. Arabs have even left their lands to destroy hotels other entertainment centers in foriegn countries since the 1970s. In Pakistan when a guy does something wrong, the loclas go after his family's women and the U.S. are fighting those guys in Afganistan.

The word lie in respect of the United States concerning Jessica Lynch, is inappropriate. The staging of a rescue was part of a military mission, possibly to gather more information but also to take full advantage of an eager press and bring out JL who may have been threatened already by certain unsavoury elements in the hospital where she was being kept.
For hospital read 'torture centre'.

Jessica Lynch is a hero.
She put on a uniform and served in a hazard zone.
What is it about liberals that they don't care about the parades and notariety that Jessica got for heroism that she is now renouncing in front of congress, to her own shame?
Why didn't she speak up 3 years ago? Where has she been?

Its a shocker isn't it. The football player as well was lionized (rambo-ized) when he was in fact killed by his own side. They ban footage of body bags and propogate an A-Team style story of war.
You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!

Can anybody name one official statement from the military about Lynch that was untrue?
I seem to recall that it was the news media who passed on rumor as fact.

My brain autocorrect Wht to Why, but I could not be bothered with your main question, because of lack of punctuation.
Your sub-question is like a stream of consciousness, and I do not have the time to study it
