best to always do different types of exercise/training on an alternating schedule. this allows the muscles to rest in between work outs. this way you have less of a chance of getting severely sore muscles. you could also add some pilates or yoga. sit ups alone are not going to tone your stomach. honestly 600 a night is a bit much and you could be over working your abs and possibly doing more harm than good. your best bet is to talk to a local trainer. you can find some at local YMCA's and they will be able to help you pick out a great work out to achieve your ultimate goal.
good luck

Every other day. It gives your muscles time to rebuild themselves so you gain muscle tone faster. 600 sit ups is very impressive. It won't make you lose weight directly from your stomach, but improving muscle tone will boost your metabolism. It would be most beneficial to improve muscle tone all over, such as with a weight training program, as well as a cardiovascular work out to burn calories- and of course eat healthy food.

Youre husband is right. When you do any form of strength training, your muscles tear. This is normal, but in order to actually make them stronger, they need time to repair themselves. I'd recommend doing your ab routine 2-3 times a week, not on consecutive days.

If your objective is to lose weight or burn calories, doing sit-ups every night would be the way to go.
If you want to increase strength or endurance, a day of recovery can help you make better gains.

you are only gona make your belly look bigger by doing sit ups. they build muscle underneath the layer of fat which is not gona go anywhere without cardio (4-6 times a week for 30-50min).
do crunches twice a week -20 reps 3 sets and make sure you breath wright, keep your abs tight and do it slow.
