I am interested in purchasing the Dvd collection of Planet Earth in HD to get the best quality, but am concerned that it will not work in my player.

It would make things so much simpler if those new HD dvd's could just be popped into any old DVD player ... however, to get more data into the same physical space meant that the data on those HD DVD's had to be packed in tighter than regular DVD's. To read this data you need a different laser that has a narrower beam. Thus the need for an HD dvd player. It just won't work on your player.

You need a HD-DVD player in order for a HD-DVD to play.If you dont have a HD-DVD player it wont play at all. Id recommend Blu-ray anyways the quality is much better and its going to stick around unlike HD-DVD Blu-rays winning the war.

nope... you have to have a DVD player with HD technology for it to transfer from the DVD to the TV... without a HD DVD player, the only thing the HD TV is good for is TV.
