God warning Babylon said this about Astrologers:

Isaiah 47:13-14 - "Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the ASTROLOGERS, the star gazers, THE MONTHLY PROGNOSTICATORS, stand up and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee; 14: Behold
they shall be as stubble, the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame; there shall not
be a coal to warm at nor fire to sit before it."

To trust in astrology is evil because it teaches people to think the stars can guide their destiny instead of the One who made the stars. I used to read the astrological predictions before I became a Christian. When I became a Christian I found out that they are nothing but generalizations that could fit anyone, and that I am to consult God about my life - not His creation! Anything that teaches you to trust something or someone other than God cannot possibly draw you closer to God so your friend was wrong.

Some further insight into Astrology ---

Astrology is a pseudo-science which deals with the supposed
influence of the stars upon human affairs and foretelling of terrestrial events by their positons and aspects.

Efforts to show that positions of the stars influence human affairs were originated and developed by polytheistic nations rather than followers of the One True God.

An unbiased reading of the Old and New Testaments reveals
no evidence that either Judaism or Christianity ever embraced astrology as a means of foretelling of earthly events or as an explanation of the difference in human personality. Both placed the emphasis on full dependence on God for extraordinary information and recognized that God
alone could provide it.

Astrology is one of the most ancient cults - The earliest form was essentially astronomy, In Babylon the worship of Astarte or Bel was added to astrology, then the Persians developed the 12 zodiac signs to correspond to twelve constellations. During the middle ages and Renaissance astrologers became important in the courts of Europe. Astrology blends well with spiritualism, Edgar Cayce, numerology, the I Ching, Tarot, theosophy, witchcraft, palmistry and other ungodly practices or systems.

The flaws in astrology are the star ages, conflicting systems that use different numbers of stars, no validation is possible for the astrologer's claims, it is based on an earth-centered universe and a five planet solar system, it has no answer for multiple births, different astrologers give different readings for
the same person, and more...

Further study could be made of astrology in relation to the heliocentric - not geocentric system, the missing planets, the missing horoscopes of the Arctic, speed and refraction of light, The procession of the equinoxes and etc.

Astrology is very interesting, I continually find myself fascinated by it. Though its validity is very questionable, it seems like a psychological thing, like if you read something about you and believe its true you will start acting that way. I think some of the things are kind of true about me, for example, I'm an Aquarius and am suppose to be very open minded, see the big picture, and be concerned with the well being of mankind. Well, look at my other answers I've given, I think they are open minded and I am very concerned with the well being of mankind. But at the same time I think this description can go for many people of different signs. So I think it comes down to who you are and how seriously you take astrology to determine how valid it is in your life, I've never known my daily horoscope to actually be true...

D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale spoke on this subject, but I think that it is a dead end. Afterall the constellations are arbitrary and man-made. Nor does Scripture mention the stars as a source of knowledge. Ancient Babylon (modernday Iraq) was the greatest user of astrology in the history of the world but they were unable to predict their own downfall by astrology: Isaiah 47:13 (KJV) Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from [these things] that shall come upon thee.

Personally I don't believe in it. The Church as a whole is against it. I do have a friend who is very intelligent and is both an Astrologer and a Christian. He says that the magi were astrologers and he is right. He considers himself to be a Christian Astrologer. He also teaches it to others. But it is against the teaching of his church.

Stars, birth date, birth month, signs cannot tell you anything about yourself. If you read all twelve months worth of predictions - they all would have somethings that would apply to your life. Those things are written in broad generalizations so they seem to be "correct."
We don't need that "stars" to bring us closer to God, all we have to do is open our hearts and talk to Him directly. No intermediary or go between is necessary. Jesus died for our sins to leave the way to the Father open for us. No preformatted prayers, or long chants - you can just talk to Him.
So, I guess you can tell I think astrology is unfounded. There is no objective scientific data to support it.

If you get a complete reading from someone who knows what they are doing, I think you will find it dead on. The sun signs you see in the paper are very general.

Does it bring us closer to God? Let me just say that if we have Faith then we really have no need for a horoscope.

The Bible warns people not to become involved in astrology. True Christians would have nothing to do with it.

Please, religion does not allow for the great universe that we live in. Otherwise Galileo would not have died while in prison for saying that the Earth revolves around the Sun. That was less than 400 years ago!!!

Astrology is just as scientific as Intelligent Design.

People who just blatantly say it's evil without even knowing what it is irk me; for instance, the celestial bodies were considered heavenly in the bible.
