Because satan told God that the only reason Job worshiped God was because he blessed him in everything, so the devil said if you took it from him he will curse you and so the test was on!

The book of Job was written so that people could see that even though bad things happen to God fearing people, God is still in control and there are things happening in the spiritual realm that we are unaware of so what might not make sense to us actually has a good reason behind it. God wasn't so much testing Job as He was taking Satan up on his challenge. God declared Job to be a righteous man and Satan said God didn't really know what He was talking about.
Job 1:8 And the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?"
9 Then Satan answered the LORD and said, "Does Job fear God for no reason? 10 Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face."
12 And the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand." So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

Satan appeared bebore the Lord
The Lord asked him where have you been
He answered from walking to and fro throut the earth
God said Have you consired Job a perfect and upright man who fears the Lord
Santan said you have a hedge around him
The purpose was that God knew Job's heart
and that he would not deny him and that he would stand the test, that he couldnot do anything to Job
Job loved God

As an important lesson that God works in a mysterious way.
He did many things that we do not understand, things too wonderful for us to know. (Job 42:3)

the devil told God that Job was faithful to God because Job had everything..family, riches and lots of friends..so God told satan he could do anything to Job but take his life and Job would still be faithful to God..thus satan did just this..and failed as Job stayed faithful to God..Job got everything he lost ..double...this sounds like Job did the right thing..

God wanted to show satan that Job WA honoring God in all circumstances, and God was right. Job went through a lot of hardship but He did not curse God. God was His rock. And God rewarded Job in the end. : )

Job had it comming. In fact it is the only instance of Satan doing anything bad to any human... Something God cannot say for himself.

You will notice that God permitted these to happen to Job but did not perform them, Satan did...
You will also notice that Job never falsly accuses God of doing these things to him and he keeps his faith in God...
You will notice that Job was GREATLY rewarded for his faith.
