This is an old and rather stupid attempt to disprove omnipotence. What you are trying to prove is since an all-powerful being will always be able to accomplish whatever He sets out to do, it is impossible for an all-powerful being to fail. The argument is arguing that since God is all-powerful He can do anything - even fail. This is like saying that since God is all-powerful He can be not all-powerful. Obviously, this is absurd. An all-powerful being cannot fail. Therefore, God can create a rock of tremendous size, but, since He is all-powerful, He will always be able to lift it. The ability to fail is not a part of omnipotence.
Omnipotence does not include the ability to do things that are, by definition, impossible. Neither does omnipotence include the ability to fail. By defining omnipotence as requiring one to have the ability to fail, you are trying to define omnipotence as being impossible. Of course, an omnipotent God would never fail.
These kinds of arguments are clearly illogical and even silly, although they are commonly used by inexperienced atheists. Most intelligent atheists have dropped these kinds of arguments long ago.

I wouldn't put anything past Him. I guy who can create all the rules of reality in seven days should be able answer a silly riddle like the above. Just because we can't come up with a solution doesn't mean that God can't.

Funny you should ask that.. I asked that same question of.. perhaps a hundred priests.. but I've answered it for myself...
God gave us our Free Agency.. the ability to choose.. and He will NEVER take that away from us.. it is the reason that Satan was cast out of Heaven (Satan wanted to take it away so that we would all just behave like robots and be good here on Earth)...
So, the only way God can control you.. is if YOU voluntarily give over your WILL to Him.. as did Jesus and the Holy Ghost.. it is the Rock that God cannot pick up...
EDIT: PS: Some people read "and God rested on the 7th day" as "and God NEEDED to rest on the 7th day".. they are not the same.

No... it's just like asking... "can God create a problem He can't solve?" God can do everything... you should know that because God had the power to create a human like you... Whatever He creates, He can handle... You just need to have more faith...

If God is omnipotent He can create a rock bigger then He can lift but if He's omnipotent He can lift the rock... God is Spirit the rock is physical; therefore the physical aspect of the rock being too big is canceled out. God can move the rock.

on the seventh day God rested so if he creates a big enough rock he would need to rest a bit

Why would He want to do that? He only does things that serve a purpose. You Know what He can't do? He can,t sin, lie or break a promise. Here is a question for you that makes as much sense as yours. Do you pack your lunch or do you walk to work?
