I allow my children to watch T.V. after they eat dinner... around 7pm and they go to bed at 8:30. We watch approite shows for their age. The thing that angers me is when they play the horror comercials for movies. They frighten my children, and I am to the point where I want to call someone (don't know the number to FOX of hand) and tell them children do watch T.V in the evning too. I am tired of telling my children to cover their eyes every time a scary commercial comes on. Keep in mind my children are young, the oldest is 7.
I just want to know if anyone else has this problem. And what can we do about it, except for banning television from our kids. Any Ideas?

I agree. They go to all the bother about telling parents to monitor the shows their children watch and to consider ratings of the shows, then they don't bother to rate the commercials and terrorize your children with them.

Maybe you should write a letter to the FCC

I don't have tivo but I've heard you can record shows now and watch them later without commercials using tivo. I would look into something like that.

I so know what you are saying. My son is almost 8, daughter almost 5. So many horror movie commercials come on, especially in the early evening.

We normally just change the channel really quickly, and if we can't do it in time then the kids know to cover their eyes.

There have been a couple of moments where I changed the station and the other station had either the SAME dang commercial or another horror movie commercial. I have to admit, it was quite funny.

The best advise is upgrade to a DVR and either record your shows or start watching them 15 minutes behind the actual show time so you can fast forward through ALL the commercials. The commercials should match the age appropriateness of the show however the TV stations make too much money from commercials to change things anytime soon.

I'd like to know the number for FOX too because I wanted to call and complain about how absolutely disgusting and offensive "The Hills Have Eyes" was...
I'm 17 and I love horror movies and so do most of my friends and I was with about 10 people while we were watching it and we all agreed on skipping a scene because it was too much...

Sorry I dont really have any suggestions for you, but I do agree.

Get a petition signed in your neighborhood and in other counties to ban the horror commercials from TV. Or just send your kids to bed after dinner.

well im not sure if you have cable a dvr or just plain old tv but a few ideas could be watch a movie instead of tv or you could rec the show and skip over commercials and lastly you could skip out on tv and find something better to do maybe a game or something.

Don't have that problem. Mine are in bed by 7.30 as they are 8 years old and need sleep. I would be cutting out tv or taping it so you can fast forward the ads, only you would be watching last nights shows. Or watch a dvd

There is a mute button on the tuner. Use it. The commercials aren't as scary when they're silent. I agree with you about inappropriate commercials at family time though. It is totally wrong.

Find a channel where you know there arent any scary commercials (Disney channel, a baseball game, something like that), and then just change it to that when there is a scary commercial on.

I have to do that every night to my daughter (5yrs old). I hate it. She sits on the floor with her fingers in her ears and a pillow over her face, nervously saying repeatedly "Is it over, mommy?" I agree the commercials should be family friendly during prime time family TV shows.
