First off, it's NOT "mostly highschool kids" who work at gas stations. Most are hard working family people doing whatever they have to to support themselves and their family.

Second, it is true that most people do not tip. Tipping the station attendant is very rare, according to three relatives of mine who have worked doing this at various times. Also, unfortunately, because of the law, and most stations you pay after the fill up, drive-offs are common, and most station managers make the attendant who was serving the drive-off culprit pay for the gas stolen!

I generally only tip station attendants on holidays, like Christmas or New Years or such, when I am so thankful they are working so that I can visit my relatives or whatever, knowing they are being away from theirs to serve me. Then I tip around $2.

The other time I tip is when I am in with my travel trailer, and a station attendant also fills my propane tanks for me, then I give a total tip of $2-5, the latter when service is given me above and beyond what is required.

No, and no - I've never seen anyone tip a gas station attendant for doing their job here in Oregon. However, gas prices tend to be slightly higher in Oregon, since the gas stations have to pay the attendants to do all that pumping. They do get paid.

no way!! don't tip them! the minimum wage is 7.50 an hour!!! and it's mostly high school kids that do it anyways. i mean...if you're feeling nice and you get a fill up, sure..throw them a buck or two. but it's NOT expencted...at least not where i grew up. good grief, as if oregon isn't expensive enough already!! there is no way i'm going to tip someone that i am required to let pump my gas.

I live in orgeon too, and it depends. If you are in a place where the service is good, tip about 3 dollars, i think. That's what I see where I live. Not eveyrone does, most people don't at all.

I am sure you can, but nobody does. I have never seen anyone do it and I have lived in Oregon my whole life.

No, you don't have to tip them. I never have. Now it makes me wonder if anyone else does.
