It all depends where you go. of course. But if you look up all the vets in your immediate area on the internet, you may find several of them offering FREE check ups for FIRST TIME clients. Its their way of pulling in new customers. I know that when I just moved into my area and looked for vets on the internet, I saw several of them advertising this. You can try that first.
A second option is to look up your local humane society or shelter and call if they have an in-house vet. These places usually charge a minimal fee for a check up.
A third option is to of course just open up your yellow book and call various vet offices and ask for a quote. My vet charges $23.00 for a normal check-up.
But check out what you can find on the internet. Many vet offices have their own web sites.
BTW, you are doing the right thing by having kitty checked up by the vet. Good on you!

My rat's got very constipated when they started antibiotics the vet recommended giving a little bit of activa with fiber to help return bacteria to their tummies and the fiber to help push stuff out. But that's for rats, and they are also a great deal older than 5 days :( I'd go with some of the other answers and also look into how a momma mouse takes care of her babies, there just may be something you need to learn to stimulate (as was said in an earlier answer) Only other thing I could suggest is staying on the KMR and keep a close eye on your baby. Congrats on the rescue and good luck I'm sure your boy will get better with some nursing and lots of love. Lots of scritches your way.

Call around and ask, the price of an exam varies greatly from vet to vet. We charge $25, which is a little on the high side for vets in this area, but we don't charge as much for vaccines. A lot of vets include the price of an exam with the vaccines they give. Also, some might give you a "litter rate" exam, a brief checkup that's less expensive just to make sure everything is normal.

If you are bottle feeding this kitty and making it go to the bathroom like you are supposed to, it is probably in good shape. Every cat that I bottle fed, I took to the vet at 4 weeks to get it a vitamin shot. It makes the chances of keeping it healthy my stronger. I would call your local humane society and tell them that this is a rescue kitty and you want to do what is best for it and see if they can give it it's vitamin shot inexpensively.

usually around 36-42 dollars, and it should include one free something... The vet will give you a list of dates and vaccinations for him. You can schedule them as you have the money.
You should also look if there is a cheaper service available for vaccinations around your area. Some animal shelters have low cost vaccination services and so on.

Take it for granted that everything is OK now.If something appears to be wrong, you will realize it.Kittens are pretty healthy little things by and large. If he is eating and doing what seems normal, then slow down.God made everything to grow and prosper if it is healthy.
If it does not,THEN take it to the vet.
