A lot of the ones I have met do not avoid mentioning this subjects. They just don't bring them up in the first sentence in the conversation. They wait to see how things go before they start talking about hell and Judgement day etc.
Personally - I think there is no fear in love. Period. To get someone to convert to Christianity out of fear of going to hell etc. is not really helping that person out. They are to have an intimate relationship with God. Not a fear of what God is going to do with them. There is to be awe - which is what is meant in the bible when it talks about fear of God. In Hebrew this is awe - complete awe. Not fear as we normally think of it.
I think there is to much emphasis on hell and Satan now-a-days. Too many people put too much power into Satan's hands, saying that he has power over this world.

I think some preachers avoid it to keep their congregation coming to church. I call them "candy preachers" who talk about the love without the warnings. It's like a parent who dishes out the love without the dicipline. This is only half the truth and for the parent, half the love. We all need the full truth and love. The Bible is a bittersweet book of hope and warnings. There are many great preachers who preach the whole truth and parents who totally love their children. I do not feel most christians avoid mentioning it when the subject arises especially. On this forum, seems no one avoids it. It's not a pleasant place to talk about, but truth is always best. God bless.

Most the time we metion Hell in a discussion, we are accused of condemning other to Hell. I will say there are those of us who do the above with nasty frequency and fervor. BUT others just mention it and people go off at them. Besides, it wasn't fear of Hell that saved us, it was love from Christ; which do you believe had the greater influence? Nobody wants to hear 'sinners go to Hell, and you will sin.' Better would that be if we say, "Yes, Unsaved Sinners go to Hell. But those who know Christ will be forgiven and saved."
I'm not suggesting tell white lies or half truths, just put the focus where it should be. May the Stars light your path...

Actually, we have been asked by some of the folks here not to mention the "H" word. Quite frankly, I don't understand that concept. In the Bible it is referred to by so many other names, and then I just recently found out it was the name for a (burning) garbage dump in the Bible days.

Well there are many CHRISTians that talk about hell and judgement day but when you talk about hell it is like you are intimadating and pressuring them into a religion and this isn't enough for them to not fall back onto the devil and allow him to be your master.Well I know when to bring it up and when not too.Soon as you bring it up about hell they tune out or so man its too this.God loves you and he allowed you to make your own choices to accept your master Jesus Christ or is it going to be d --evil one who comes to kill you and your hopes and dreams your spirit everything the one who comes to steal and destroy.

I don't particularly like the part about the gnashing of teeth and eternal torment for unbelievers. But what did you want to talk about?
Jesus is Lord
