Almost all Christians (including Catholics) agree with you.
No one really knows what hell is like. It has been described by people who have not been there as everything from flames to a frozen lake (Dante).
Hell is the state of complete and final self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed, reserved for those who refuse by their own free choice to believe and be converted from sin, even to the end of their lives
I like to think of it this way. The only way a person will go to hell is if they want to.
God in His (or Her) unlimited love has given us free will to choose. Our most important choice is to freely decide to accept or reject God's constant offer of spending eternity with Him in heaven. God will respect the choice to reject Him.
With love in Christ.

Harry Potter spoke of Hogwarts more than he did spoke of other places. So far 6 of the books give many references concerning Hogwarts. We're still waiting on the 7th and final revelation. Should we believe in Hogwarts?
Hell is no different than Hogwarts. They're both fiction.

If there's a heaven, there's got to be a hell, because a lot of people would not feel at home in heaven. Can you imagine Hitler in heaven?
One respondent, rhsounde, said there is no evidence for hell. What would he accept as evidence--someone returning to life from hell? (There are cases of this happening.)

I think hell is just a conscious thought. You can be in hell in many ways, while alive and after death. If intelligence exists after our life is over, we will experience thought. Our thought will determine the significants of good or bad at that point. Hopefully we can change our minds if we don't like it.

I don't believe in the Christian hell.
Of course, I also don't accept that Jesus is the Messiah either.
I also think people worry and think too much about hell. Concentrate on this life - let God take care of the rest.

JESUS WAS RESURRECTED OUT OF HELL
Acts 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 2:28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. 2:29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 2:35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
Sepulchre, tomb, cave, pit, grave, burial place hell.
Angels are in prison hell Jude 6; 2Pet.2:4; 1Pet.3:18-20 and Jesus went to visit them as they have been there since the flood, angels do not die Luke 20:34-36;
Hell fire is death and burial by fire or burial by fire and much of this took place in the valley of the son of Himmon Jer.19:2-5; Mark 9:42-48;
Luke 16:14-31; The truth is found in the bible, Jesus read the covetous hear of the Pharisee and put them Gen.8:21; The imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth. There is a great gulf between the truth and the imagination, the living dead, when dead is the opposite of life and as said,
Luke 16:16,17,29,31; If they will not hear Moses and the prophets, no truth will be known, and Abraham bosom is not heaven, but even Lazarus will benefit from it, but the rich religious leaders have the right to by pass poor Lazarus as they are rich and he is poor, Abraham was rich Gen.13:2; But Jesus did not illustrated these rich religious Pharisee leaders as being in his bosom, it was Lazarus and they were in their living dead imaginary place.
So from Adam to the end of the 1000 year reign of Christ where is hell or the lake of fire? When is Satan brought to an end?
What happens to all that go the way of Satan at end of the 1000 year reign?
What is the second death? What is death?
