in a nut shell the Templar's were a religious order, they went digging for something in Jerusalem under the temple and found what they were looking for,not the holy grail, but something that caused the Catholic church to grant them immunity and great power,no one knows what they found, but after they did, they became fearless, inviting death, they helped with the crusades, and they had great leaders, they were what we would call mercenaries of their time, yet for god, then after years a certain pope came along,by then they had started calling themselves the Freemasons.which goes back to Egypt anyways the pope ordered that the mas ions were devil worshipers and ordered all to be arrested, thier leader was executed on Friday the 13 hence the bad luck, the mas ion has a real history ,that goes on for years and has many many high political figures including many presidents of America

There is an organization called the Knights of Templar today.

The Knights of Templar of old ran afoul for some reason against the King of France. All sorts of accusations were brought against them. The Catholic Church is really not certain if they were true or not. This was during the Avignon Papacy and some feel the Pope was under the control of the French king and that is why they were disbanded. Put in Knights Templar under search and look at Wikepedia.
Jesuits had nothng to do with the disbanding of the Knights Templar as the Jesuit order had not been founded when they were disbanded.

On the History Channel, I understood that the Knights Templar were asked to find the Holy Grail. Everyone thought it was a drinking vessel. (grail actually meant "container".) But instead they found that it was a scroll about Jesus who didn't want large church organizations. (I guess the scroll was also a container; a container of holy words.) So the Church Leaders then ordered that the Knights Templar should be executed. But a few escaped with the scroll. So later they formed some type of fraternal organization. I think it was the Masons, but I am not sure. - I hope this helped you.

PS: Yes, I think they had good morals.

There are many stories concerning the Knights and not all of them are nice. The Knights were sent to the Middle East to protect pilgrim making the journey to the Holy Lands. During this period they were supposed to have found the Holy Grail and their purpose changed and they became the keepers of the Holy Grail and other bits of religious treasure. When they became too big and uncontrollable by King and Church, they were centured and declare anatheama by the church. They fought for their lives, but many such as Jacque de Molay were burned at the stake as a heretic. The Knights who survived were supposed to have fled to Scotland where their organization went through a name change and they became the Free Masons.

You should be able to get an idea of what they were like by this.

They were outstanding warrior-monks who acheived a great deal of political power. The Jesuits were their undoing. Lots of books on the subject - serious books. Check your library. Skip the trashy best-seller mentioned above.
