A Thought:
If we could choose then Jonah would not be in disobedience to GOd when he did not want to go to tarsus to preach to evil men.
Jonah Flees From the LORD
1 The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 "Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me."
3 But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD.

Jonah's Anger at the Lord 's Compassion
1 But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry. 2 He prayed to the LORD, "O LORD, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. 3 Now, O LORD, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live."

We believe the Holy Spirit bestows at least one spiritual gift to every believer at the moment of salvation. (1 Cor 12:11) These spiritual gifts as listed in the Bible are not to be confused with natural talent and ability which we receive at birth in our genetic make-up, but are the supernatural God-given ability to perform certain functions in the service of the Lord Jesus Christ for the edifying of the saints and to bring Glory to God the Father. (Ephes. 4:4-13) No believer possesses every spiritual gift, nor do we have any say-so whatsoever in the Spiritual gift the Holy Spirit gives us, for that decision is the Holy Spirit’s at His random will. (1 Cor. 12:29, 30) We believe that of the list of Spiritual gifts listed in the Bible (Rom. 12:6-8; 1 Cor. 12:4-7; Ephes. 4:11).

There are alot of things that hender our spiritual gifts from taking root. (They just sit dormit.) Allowing the flesh to take president in our lives, still smoking, drinking, etc . . (still taking part of the world)

There is also lack of knowledge. These gifts or anointings as they are also called is just a root. We then must nuture and develop them by being obedient and studying the word of God. 2 Timothy 2:15.

This is something that you need to go to the Lord for prayer and seek his way. I'm sure you have seen in your church many people in positions they believe they belong and to be honest they aren't. This is an example of someone not waiting on the Lord to guide them in their gift or calling. (Sqeezing a spiritual square peg in a circled one)

For me, it took years to acknowledge it. I could never figure out no matter where I moved all of the neighborhood kids would flock to my house. Why on a Saturday morning when I wanted to sleep late, there would be a group knocking on my door asking to come in whether or not my children were home. I also contemplated why all the careers -- all ten of them -- didn't give me any satisfaction or zeal until I was a youth leader at my church. Yeah some of us a little hard headed. lol I hope my words gave you some enlightment and comfort. God Bless

Here is a link along with many others that have online spiritual gifts tests. I would als talk to your pastor for an outside perspective. When got has placed a spiritual gift in you others can see it long before you do.

I think very few people end up with a spiritual gift that they hate. Usually your spiritual gift will be related to something that you are naturally drawn to and that you can do well. So, if you look at a list, there may be some things on that list that you already know you are lousy at or that you really don't like to do. Those are probably not your spritual gifts. Some things you might need to try before you are sure. Teaching is a good example. If you have never tried it you might not know you are good at it. Sometimes you just have to get out there and get involved with different ministries. Once you are involved you will know where you fit.

I believe that we have a gift because the Lord gave us that gift. People that are talented in music, and choose to edify God with it are a great example. God given talent becomes anointed when we start directing it spiritually.

Can you ask for a different of more, yes. Ask not, have not. God will give us the desire of our heart. I have seen many people that have prayed for something be given it. So yes, again, I believe if you want a gift ask for it.

I don`t believe so.Gifts come from God and we can choose to use them or not. Some people are blessed with more then one gift.If your given several and don`t use them and someone else has one and they do use that gift God give them then they in the end are the one who is truly blessed.

We receive the gift's according to our ability

Someone that is not strong enough in faith

would not get that one until it is matured......

You can desire and pray for a gift and if you

are able to be trusted in that, he will give it to you

Seek Prophesy

That is the best gift..........

The others will follow if you will follow on to

know him and be faithful in it...........

I'm not sure if we can choose them, but we can deny them. I think that's what she's talking about.
