Here's the county jail I worked for:

0600 Breakfast (you don't wake up, you don't eat, not our problem)
0615 Morning meds (you don't wake up, you don't get them, not our problem)
0645 Clean eating area (everyone helps on alternating days everyone else stays on their bunk, quiet)
0800 Court call (this is only in county. You got 15 minutes to be up and ready waiting at the door for transport)
1000 Rack Up (go to your bunk and sit there quiet while we take a physical head count. You must stay here until count clears for the whole jail usually about 30-45 minutes) {usually it should be quiet untill 1100 when most people sleep in}
1100 Lunch (if you're still asleep, again not our fault)
1130 Cleaning (all others rack)
1200-1300 Afternoon meds (ditto to morning meds)
1300 Rack up (afternoon head count and shift change. once again, silence is usually the norm)
1400 New shift New count (still racked)
1430 Count Clears (unrack)
1600 Evening meds
1700 Dinner
1730 Clean (this also doubles as rack time until the 1800 count clears)
1830 Count clears AA/church/NA/rec leaves
1900 Medical Call (anyone with complaints sees a nurse or EMT)
2100 Rack up for shift change and PHC
2200 Shift change
2230 Count clears
2300 Change greens (you'll change out your clothes 2x a week)
2345 15 minute warning to finish up whatever you've got.
0000 Rack up for the night.

Throughout the night people will go to medical or get called out on the chain, which means they will leave for another county or prison in the morning. When this happens the next day phones will stay off for the safety of the transportation crew. During your free time you can draw or write or call collect home. There is a commisary where you can buy food, extra whites (underwear, tshirts, socks), calling cards, etc. It may seem like a breeze but it's not. Jailers control your everymove. You're stuck in a cell or a dorm with people that smell and are rude. You always have to be on high alert. You have to shower in front of everyone (at our jail the partitian has big holes in it and a direct view from our desk) The toilets are not private at all. It's no fun, at all!

Our jail is direct supervision, meaning we sit in the living quarters behind a desk. Visitation is in the mornings and evenings. You get 1 visit a day and 2 a week. Our visitation is done by video feed. There is a camera, monitor, mic and speaker in the living area and there is one out in the lobby. No direct contact. Your attorney may visit in a semi contact visitation area. Our jail, you don't move from your pod for anything except church, NA and AA. It gets old.

It's hot, it smells, everyone is in a bad mood. 20 guys stuck in a 10x10 holding cell for 3 days at a time (CA has to many criminals). Toilet backs up daily. You have to ask for toilet paper, 8 hrs later you get it. breakfast at 3am, better be awake. Make an officer mad, you get a cell search and all your crap gets thrown on the floor until you pick it up.

County jail is boring. But, if you make it to the big house, you get to be Bubba's girl friend.
