I have always said I want to be a doctor, but I'm not sure if I want to do patient care. I don't like being around sick people.
What I'm interested in is matching medications with microbes, finding cures for diseases, and medication in general. Researching different drugs would be fun.
I have alaways dreamed of curing disease, but not the ones inside people. The ones under the microscope.

Id suggest going into genetics. There is lots of new research going on, well even products now, on things like gene chips that can match peoples dna to the medicines that will actually work for them. Some meds take trial and error. Or do something ike chemical engineering, chemistry, or pharmacy too, or even a phd in pharmacology.

You could go into research for diease control or for medicine. i have a freind who is a medical doctor that works for the Center of Disease Control. I also have a friend that is a degreed Pharmacist that works for Lilly, she does research on new medicines.

You could do some research on Monster.com, the salary calcuator. Look under Science, it will give you varius career paths, what experience and degree you need, and how much you can expect to make.

Get a degree in pharmacy and then find a research job. If you go further and get a M.S or PH.D. that would be ideal. If you are still in high school, it is a long along ride !

Perhaps medical research is your field - biology, botany, chemistry would be the first subjects to study.
