If people are confident enough in their own beliefs that they don't feel threatened when others believe differently, then they can get along better. Allowing people their spiritual journeys, without being threatened by differences, is the type of tolerance that helps people get along. In one small community I know about, people in different churches were happy to work together for several decades. When a new church moved into town that claimed the others were wrong and it was right, the dynamics of the whole town changed. People were split up into groups that judged each other. It was detrimental for the whole community, and many young people stopped going to any church as a result. It would have been okay if the new church had been willing to simply be part of the community and work with the other churches.
