I know what you mean about the dancing. It is hard to dance any other way, but you could try to dance with a group of people or ask the DJ to play music that people like to jump around to.

Why shouldn't you dance that way? Two reasons -
1. Are you respecting the person's body if you are using them as a dance pole? Do you want them to dance "on" you? People should be dancing together, not on each other.
2. What do you think it can lead to? If a girl gets used to having a guy have his hands all over her when there are a lot of people around, then she might be tempted to do something that she shouldn't do when they are alone. A person's body is there own, and they shouldn't have to get used to being touched all over.

Since you had the courage to ask about it there must be something that makes you think it's not right. Good job! Don't let that go! Doing something different from everyone else can be hard, but just don't make a big deal out of it. Just go get a drink, or go the bathroom, or say you are hot and want to step outside. You don't have to tell them why you don't want to grind.

I hope you have fun at your next dance!

God Bless!

Provocative dancing stirs passions and can lead to sin. While on earth, Jesus highlighted the need for Christians to avoid things that lead to sin, not just the sin itself. In fact, the one that's most often quoted applies in your case. If you have a Bible at home, look up Matthew 5:27, 28.

My translation says: "“You heard that it was said, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone that keeps on looking at a woman so as to have a passion for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

So regardless of what side of that scenario you're on, you wouldn't want to be either enticing someone to committ immorality, or the one being enticed. If the party you've been invited to will undoubtedly feature dancing that arouses unclean passions, you should seriously consider not attending.

dancing is not a sin, but it definitely brings people close together. "Grinding" is very close and intimate way of dancing, and seems very sexual in nature. There are other ways of dancing and having fun at parties!

A sin? No. Inappropriate for someone in 8th grade, YES.

You should save grinding for your husband. It is vital to your reputation to not send out the wrong signals to the opposite sex. Grinding is very sexually based.
I believe that you should keep yourself as pure as possible for God has your mate waiting for you and your relationship will be great, beyond your comprehension, when you are able to give your Bridegroom a pure and unadulterated wedding night.
That is how the divorce rate will decrease...if you and your friends will wait.

I think it is a sin. It is downright pornographic, and not at all appropriate for minors. And to the person who wrote, "Your parents and chaperones did the same" -- I am just the right age to be this girl's mother, and, NO, we did NOT dance like that, and I went to public schools.

I don't like saying things are sins that are not clearly taught to be. But it seems to me that you know you shouldn't be doing this. you really should have enough respect for yourself not to do things just because everyone else is. I feel bad that the parents allow you to dance like this. Please don't do it anymore.

8th grade and your grind dancing? That's just scary in itself...ya it's not good...as far as sinning...it's lusting...even if your not doing the lusting the guy you are dancing with is...Don't be apart of his sin.

Grind dancing is sexual in nature. It produces sexual feelings in those who participate in it. It is a form of immodesty if not a form of unchastity. Yes, it is a sin. Just like marijuana may be the gateway to harder drugs like meth, grind dancing may be the gateway to more serious things like pre-marital sex.

No. It is not a sin. We are free to dance however we like in Christ. Jesus Christ is all about freedom. So dance like you're dancing for him.
