I want to do volunteer work over the summer when I'm home from college and won't have a job. I looked into 2 local hospitals- 1 only offered clerical duties for volunteers (I'd like to work with people), and the other had a 3-4 months wait for volunteering! Also looked into the humane society, but you must go to orientation before even applying and the next one isn't until the end of June. I'd like to work at a hospital, or with animals, or for a hotline, or some type of social services center(rape, domestic violence, HIV/AIDs, mental illness, homeless, etc.). ANYTHING where I'm helping people or animals! I'm having such a hard time finding anything on the net or thinking of other places to call I haven't already checked out. I'm looking for something in Orange County, CA. I live in Placentia which is very close to Anaheim. (Disneyland)

If you like helping other people and it makes you happy. Then you should start from where you live. Start working for shelter. I am pretty sure there you will found so many people who are addicted to drugs or who is victims of domestic violence or maybe rape.
Take to them; try to help out show them they have someone who they can talk to. There is someone who got some time to listen to their feelings. And I am pretty sure by doing this you will be the happiest and richest person in the whole world. When I said richest it means rich with those people blessings.

I would recommend that you contact your local volunteer center. They can provide all sorts of one-time or short-term volunteer activities that match your interest and meet real community needs as well.

Through my volunteer center, I tutor children at the local library, enhance visitor experience at the local museum, package food at the local food bank, and a lot of other diverse projects.

Your volunteer center is The Volunteer Center of Orange County:

I started as a hospital volunteer many years ago, but if you're looking for targeted opportunities within the hospital, it is best to talk with the Volunteer Office at one of your local hospitals:

Good luck!

Well, you didn't mention anything about children, but I do know that a lot of day cares would love extra help and if you are THAT dedicated, that's a very good thing. Day cares can always use an extra helping hand - somebody who cares and will treat the children with their upmost respect.
