Yes, God did create our spirits before he created Adam and Eve's physical bodies.
Genesis 1:27 says that He made man (male and female) in his own image. This was the spiritual creation.
Then in Genesis 2:7 says that He "formed man of the dust of the ground." This was the physical creation. and then in verse 8 it says He "put" Adam in Eden.
If you read Genesis 2:4-8, you will see that it actually says that everything had a spiritual creation prior to its physical creation.
As far as testing or proving us is concerned, in a way we are being tested and proved, as we have to show that we are righteous and worthy enough to return to live with HIm again.
Though part of the reason for us being here is to obtain a physical body.

Actually it was God breathing His own Spirit into the form of man that initiated the whole beginning for man. The bible says that God breathed into man after He had formed Him and man became a living soul. The consciousness that was characteristic of the first "Adam" is the residual effect of the contact of Spirit with the flesh. Through reproduction down through the ages we have within us the result of the original confiquration of the DNA which causes us to have the same potential as Adam had before the fall however we do not possess the openess to the Spiritual communion that Adam had before the fall. It is not until we are "born again" that our spirit is reconnected with the Spirit of God and in this way we can truly be said to be a "new creature" in Christ.
Oh and by the way Jesus never claimed to be the way the truth the life and the test. Its a relationship, not a test ok?

God didn't create us. The idea of a god and the teachings of the bible are nothing more than human beings rationalizing their existence. After all, are we not rational beings if nothing else? We always have to have a rational explanation for everything, it's only human, so why would man not come up with a good THEORY to explain how we got here?

We existed long before we were born. God asks Job where he was when the foundations of the earth were laid, when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy. We existed when the foundations of the earth were laid. That's just the foundations of it. So we existed before we were born. How much longer only God knows.

What looks like a test may just be freedom. God would like to be loved by people who are free.

First, let’s look at the real meaning behind the word “spirit”. The original Hebrew word is “ruach”, and the Greek is “pneuma”. These words to not refer to an entity unto itself, but the animating force of a living, breathing creature.
To illustrate:
When you unplug a radio, does the electricity that was running it go anywhere? No, it’s simply gone. Neither does our spirit go anywhere. It simply stops animating our body, making us dead.
The word soul (since I know that’ll be your next question), is “nephesh” in Hebrew, and “psykhe” in Greek. Again, these words do not refer to a spirit creature inside us. The words refer to the entire creature itself. Genesis 2:7 says: “And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul.” It doesn’t say he came to HAVE a living soul, but that he came to BE a living soul. In numerous other places in the Bible, animals are spoken of as being souls also. To back this up further, Ezekiel 18:4 says: “Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul that is sinning—it itself will die” This shows that souls (or creatures) die. Traditional doctrine says that the soul is immortal, but this clearly says otherwise.

god didnt create us to test us.... he created us to live in a utopia... earth is supposed to be another heaven, but the sin of adam and eve created the life we have now....
god created us with free will so he cant intervene, the last time he did was moses and the flood... and he promised never to do it again with a rainbow.
now with that free will we can choose to believe or not, and the devil tries to make us unbelievers.
satan uses things to pull us away from god, and god in return uses satan's deceptions to draw us closer to god.
