couples who do not use birth control have a muchs better chance of staying together. First, they have to be married and use the rythem method. But she said that if you use birth control, you are not totally giving yourself in the relationship to the other person. She wouldn't explain further because of mixed company. She also said it wasn't a religion statistic. It was a statistic in all people.
I'm curious on where she got this info. And like I said, she's not talking further. Anyone got some info on this to help me understand this? I'm very curious. And she's not talking.

To Meg... Thanks for the link. But she say's it wasn't religion based. Yet she is catholic, doesn't believe in premarital sex. And believes she should have sex to have children. She said her mom had her tubes tied, but her parents are still together. And that is just a fluke. This girl is only 19 yrs old. Just don't quite understand where she's coming from. I was born and raised catholic. Have questioned the religion since I was in the 4th grade. Most of it didn't make sence to me at that age. I'm 47 now. I thought the church had changed many of their ways since my childhood.
Help me understand.

I don't know if it's true or not; I never heard that one. But you can't very well do a true experiment with people, randomly assigning couples to "birth control" or "no birth control" conditions. That means any study on the subject would only be able to come up with correlations between divorce rate and use of birth control. It could just be that people who don't believe in birth control don't believe in divorce either. Or maybe in cultures where birth control isn't available, women also tend not to have any real options for a decent life if they get divorced. Or maybe there are some reasons neither of us have thought of. Of course, it's possible that there is a causal relationship between birth control and divorce, but I just don't think you can prove it.

I tend to think the opposite.

Couples they use birth control tend to stay together more, because the man can have sex anytime the woman permits

Catholics can't. If the woman consents but it's not the right day and she doesn't want anymore babies, then he's out of luck

How long does a man do without.

The divorce rate among Catholics is 21%, same as for Lutherans and Atheists.

Considering divorce is anti-catholic that's an interesting figure

how much of it is because the man is tired of getting none!

It isn't a statistic, it's a crock. It's merely the official line of the Catholic church. It's a fact because the church says it is, and drums into them the logic behind this "fact." It's a fact because if they don't believe it, they aren't good Catholics. And it's a fact because they slaved for years keeping fertility charts. If you put that much work into something, you don't want to believe that you've been had.

The way you describe it, it sounds like that is her personal view, not a statistic. There aren't many reliable statistics on divorce or couples staying together.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divorce#Statistics

Use of birth control is a just a lifestyle choice. I'd say not using it only makes you more likely to have unplanned pregnancies.

That's odd. Never heard that or seen any evidence for it. How could being on the pill mean you're not really connecting with your partner? All it means is that you don't want to spend the next 9 months with a backache.

LOL. That's because using the rhythm method gets a woman pregant and then the parents have to stay together. I love Catholic logic.

I suppose if you only ask catholics who do not use birth control you could probably skew the statistics in that direction.

honey,listen... if it was a "statistic" as she claims... wouldn't there be facts and figures everywhere? I have never heard of such ignorance... maybe back in the caveman days when you had to increase your tribe. But if she's not talking, trust me... it ain't a statistic.

She's not talking because it isn't true.

And for that matter "Keeping together" is not the
desired statistic, is it? I prefer "Are happy together".
How many more loveless marriages does the world
need?

I ain't buying that... I bet they stay together more, but only cause they think divorce means hell... you're talking catholic here...

Edit: The catholics I know have affairs, but they won't divorce. Go figure.
